Despite Record Revenue, Deficit Keeps Expanding
The Treasury Department has already raked in a record $1,046,224,000,000 so far this fiscal year, CNSNews.com reported, which means 2015 marks the first time the government hit the $1 trillion revenue benchmark in the first quarter. (The previous record, held last year, was $960,598,000,000.) But despite the higher revenue stream, the balance sheet sank deeper into the red. Because the government spent $1.2 trillion, debt accrual totaled $194.2 billion – up 6.2% year-over-year. A healthier economy definitely helped pump up tax revenue, but that evidently didn’t tame the bad spending habits of our elected officials, who are clearly in no hurry to balance the budget.
