Smithsonian Defends Margaret Sanger Bust

And keeps the eugenist in the “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.

Since race-baiters across the nation are so intent on removing historical symbols like the Confederate flag, it’s only fair that one of their own would become a target: Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger. The proponent of eugenics once wrote that blacks and other immigrants were “human weeds,” “reckless breeders,” and “spawning … human beings who never should have been born.” Furthermore, she cautioned, “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” In practice, that’s what Planned Parenthood is working toward, with 70% of its clinics in minority neighborhoods. Did 90,000 black children die last year under the Confederate banner or the one of Planned Parenthood? So it’s no small irony that Sanger’s bust in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery is in the “Struggle for Justice” exhibit — that would be alongside Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks, whom, presumably, she would have preferred not been born. Several black pastors petitioned that it be removed. The Smithsonian denied the request, while admitting that many of her beliefs “are now controversial,” and insisting, “The museum’s intent is not to honor her in an unqualified way.” No, just to keep her mug in the wrong place.
