The Trump Bible

Publius · Aug. 28, 2015

Donald Trump often introduces his 28-year-old book, “The Art of the Deal,” on the stump as his “second favorite book.” His favorite, he says, is the Bible. “Nothing beats the Bible,” he’ll crow. While most Christians would applaud that, we’re not convinced of Trump’s sincerity. When asked by Bloomberg reporters to name “one or two of your most favorite Bible verses,” Trump dodged. “I wouldn’t wanna get into it because, to me, that’s very personal,” he said. “The Bible means a lot to me, but I don’t wanna get into specifics.” We understand it’s tough to be put on the spot, but Trump is all too often short on specifics — especially when spouting slogans will suffice. “I’m pretty religious,” he said in April. “I went to Sunday school for years. I’m a believer.” Well, if he’s looking for a good verse, maybe 1 Peter 3:15 will suffice: “…always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.”
