A Green Wall Against Blood-Red Mexican Violence

Trump suggests solar wall. How can Democrats object to another sustainable energy “green” solar project?

As we noted last month, Mexico is now the second most dangerous nation in the world after Syria. Obviously, Syria is a war zone, but nearly all of Mexico’s and violence is associated with drugs, and that violence, particularly associated with the MS-13 and other gangs, is flooding across our southern border.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions says, “Most of the heroin, fentanyl and other drugs that killed our citizens and drive so much of the violent crime in America come through the porous southern border. Almost all of it is coming from Mexico.” There’s an opiate epidemic in America, most of it originating with the overprescription of opiate-based drugs. But addicts then resort to street drugs — and the source for almost all heroin is Mexico, which is now a major producer and distributor.

Murders in Mexico just hit a record high, and violent crime in Mexico is up 30% in one year alone — especially since the capture of “El Chapo” Guzman last year, which accelerated the cartel drug wars. So much for Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto’s claim he would “bring peace to Mexico.” To keep his campaign promise, Peña Nieto should pay for the wall because it would decrease violence in his own country.

It’s long past time to secure our southern border with physical barriers and other interdiction measures where walls are not feasible. Donald Trump, who’s promise of a wall and immigration enforcement helped win him the White House, said Wednesday he was considering a solar border wall: “Think of it. The higher it goes, the more valuable it is. Pretty good imagination, right?” In fact, the president quipped, “This way, Mexico will have to pay much less money, and that’s good. A solar wall. Makes sense.”
