Transgender Who Did What to Whom?
Good luck trying to sort through the jumble of this story about sexual harassment.
Here’s an amusing item from The Week, verbatim: “Jeffrey Tambor says he’s quitting a starring role as a transgender woman in Amazon’s hit show Transparent, after a sexual harassment allegation by transgender co-star Trace Lysette. Lysette accused him of saying she looked so good he wanted to ‘sexually attack her,’ and of rubbing his penis against her. Tambor’s former assistant Van Barnes, who is also transgender, also accused the actor of making sexually inappropriate remarks to her. In a statement, Tambor, 73, admitted to having ‘flaws,’ but vehemently denied being a ‘predator’ — ‘and the idea that someone might see me in that way is more distressing than I can express.’ The ‘politicized atmosphere’ on the set, Tambor said, made it impossible for him to continue in the role.”
So as I understand it, a man playing a “transgender” woman is assaulted by another male “transgender” actor playing a “transgender” woman, er, I mean uh… If you can figure this out, please let me know. (For the record, there is no such thing as “transgendered.” A gender disoriented person may “identify” as another sex, but they will always be the same gender they were when first formed in their mother’s womb.)
