Dems Label Brett Kavanaugh ‘Evil,’ Sans Evidence
Democrats prove the only reason they oppose the SCOTUS nominee is because of Trump.
Producing no legitimate evidence to even remotely support such an extreme perspective, Democrat Sen. Cory Booker (NJ) called on his fellow senators to reject confirming Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court lest they be “complicit in evil.” And what exactly is this “evil” of Kavanaugh’s that Booker is so concerned his fellow lawmakers not be a party to? Well, Booker and Senate Democrats have yet to find it, but they are certain it’s there if they are simply granted an unprecedented number of documents beyond the vast number they have already received.
Memo to Booker and the Democrats: You’re doing it backwards. If you desire to maintain the façade of having any actual objectivity in your approach to vetting President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, you don’t start by telling the whole country just how terrible of a person Kavanaugh is and then demand to see if evidence exists that would support your predetermined conclusion. There’s a term for this type of foolishly judgmental behavior: prejudice.
And on Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called the Democrats bluff:
Judge Kavanaugh has been a judge for over a decade. He’s written over 300 opinions. He just produced over 6,000 pages of documents as part of his questionnaire, and many more documents will be produced in the coming weeks. In fact it’s likely that more documents will be produced for his nomination than any Supreme Court nominee in our entire history.
But it is becoming pretty clear that none of this will really matter. I’m sorry to say that for most Senate Democrats, I’m afraid, it would not matter if there were a million pages of documents, or 10 million, or 100 million. It wouldn’t make any difference. No matter how many documents are produced, many of our Democratic colleagues are making it abundantly clear they’re never going to support this nominee. Never.
So, the complaint about documents is not about assessing his record in any open-minded, fair and dispassionate way. It’s all about the desire to obstruct and delay.
But hey, Democrats are doing it “for the people,” right?
