Above the Fold

TAX RETURNS SUBPOENAED: According to National Review, “New York state prosecutors, led by Manhattan district attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr., have subpoenaed President Trump’s accounting firm for records of his tax returns for the last eight years.” The report adds, “The subpoena is part of an investigation into hush-money payments made by the president to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. … It was unclear, however, why prosecutors subpoenaed documents from as far back as 2011.” Actually, it’s pretty obvious why — the Democrat impeachment brigade is throwing all kinds of mud on the wall hoping something will stick. And if Democrats manage to get their hands on Trump’s tax returns, they will no doubt find other imaginative “smoking guns” to assist in their impeachment efforts.

OIL-ATTACK FALLOUT: “Oil prices soared after a coordinated attack hit the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry on Saturday, forcing the kingdom to cut its oil output in half,” according to CNBC. “Brent crude futures, the international benchmark, rose as much as 19.5% to $71.95 per barrel at the open, the biggest jump on record. The contract closed the session up 14.6% at $69.02.” Meanwhile, President Trump yesterday intoned that “it’s certainly looking” like Iran sanctioned the attack. As for the logistics of the blitz, Agence France-Presse profiles the evolving drone threat.

Government & Politics

POINTLESS IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS BEGIN: “As they investigate President Donald Trump, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee will hold their first official hearing in what they are calling an impeachment investigation. Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s outspoken, loyal former campaign manager, is scheduled to appear Tuesday to discuss the report by former special counsel Robert Mueller. But it’s unlikely that Democrats will get much new information as they decide whether to draft articles of impeachment against the president.” (Associated Press)

LEFTMEDIA ENABLERS: New York Times reporters behind Brett Kavanaugh story suggest key information was removed by editors (Fox News)

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE: “The Women’s March has cut ties with three inaugural co-chairs after accusations of anti-Semitism rocked the far-left organization, while adding a new one who compared Israel to the Islamic State and another who questioned Israel’s legitimacy.” (The Washington Free Beacon)

Culture & Heartland

VILLAGE ACADEMIC CURRICULUM: New York City says 1.1 million students can skip school for climate strike protest (Axios) (This is the same city that wants to ban chocolate milk in schools.)

TAXPAYER-FUNDED ABORTION: “On Friday, the California legislature passed a bill that would force every public university in the state to offer abortion pills to students. … The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Gavin Newsom, who supported a previous draft of the bill.” (The Daily Wire)

DISLIKE FACEBOOK: “Want to stay healthy, both emotionally and physically? Researchers from UC San Diego and Yale have some simple advice for you: Limit the amount of time you spend on Facebook. While this may sound like typical anti-social media crankiness from academia, this time they have some impressive research to back up their case.” Be sure to check out the details at Business Insider.
