Thursday News Executive Summary

Trump rejects Shutdown 2.0, DOJ eyes Big Tech, cops vote with their feet, and more.

Above the Fold

  • According to Fox News, “The Supreme Court ruled Thursday against the Trump administration’s effort to end the Obama-era program that offers protections to young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children. The court ruled that the administration’s decision to rescind the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program violated the Administrative Procedure Act.” So Barack Obama said 22 times that he doesn’t have the power to do something. He does it anyway. Trump undoes it. SCOTUS says, “You can’t do that.” Do we have that about right?

  • Yesterday, President Donald Trump made the following declaration regarding the burgeoning number of coronavirus cases: “We won’t be closing the country again. We won’t have to do that.” Reuters adds, “Trump’s comments come after White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin both said the United States could not shut down the economy again.” Indeed it can’t. As USA Today reports, “About 1.5 million workers filed applications for unemployment insurance for the first time last week, the Labor Department said Thursday. That pushes the running tally of those who have made initial claims over the past 13 weeks to a mind-boggling 45.7 million.”
