Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden seems prepared to do whatever is necessary in his bid to continue the fundamental transformation of America begun by his former boss, Barack Obama. Upon winning the nomination, he quickly surrendered to the leftist wing that now controls the Democrat Party, throwing his support behind socialist policies that he was against only months ago.

One of those priorities is ending the Senate filibuster to clear the way for passing the Democrats’ desired policies. The filibuster is a Senate tool that gives the minority party the ability to block legislation by preventing a cloture vote to end debate. Democrats infamously used it in the 1950s and ‘60s to prevent passage of civil rights legislation. In recent years, Democrats suddenly found the filibuster to be problematic because Republicans used it to hamstring Obama’s agenda and judicial nominees. In the latter case, Democrats nuked it. Now they’re promising to get rid of it if they can win 50 seats and the White House.

It’s easy to see why the filibuster is the bane of presidents. Donald Trump has previously called for getting rid of it, though Majority Leader Mitch McConnell does not support the idea. He recognizes that Republicans won’t be in the majority forever and would come to regret dumping it. Biden, assuming that he will win and that Democrats will seize control of the Senate in November, believes his policies should not be held up by parliamentary procedure.

“I do think we’ve reached a point, a real inflection in American history. And I don’t believe it’s unlike what [Franklin] Roosevelt was met with,” Biden said, comparing himself to the former president who toyed with all sorts of unconstitutional methods while in office. “I think we have an opportunity to make some really systemic change.”

If Biden does win in November, and the Democrats take both the House and the Senate, the end of the filibuster is assured. Leftists won’t allow anything to stand in the way of their plans to turn America into a socialist country. How do they intend to make this a reality? There are several pieces of legislation that would sail through the Senate with a simple majority of Democrats in charge.

We can expect blanket amnesty for the 11-plus million illegal immigrants in the United States. Biden wants a “pathway to citizenship” for them, and like the amnesty that gave citizenship to three million illegals in the 1980s, it would send a signal that illegal immigrants are welcome in America and significantly boost their entry into the country, particularly if the border wall comes down, which is another Democrat promise for 2020.

We would see a restoration of taxpayer-funded abortions — well, the removal of the fig leaf that allows politicians to claim we don’t currently fund abortions. Secret ballots for unionization will also likely go away, allowing workplaces to unionize with a petition signed by a bare majority of employees. Democrats would also push for statehood for the District of Columbia, a staunchly leftist region that would be a reliable Democrat vote in perpetuity.

Chipping away at the Second Amendment is also assured through reinstatement of the ban on “assault weapons” and making gun manufacturers liable in deaths and injuries resulting from their products. Federal taxes will rise as Democrats aim to raise rates on high earners. So-called wealth taxes will stymy investment and savings, dealing a hard blow to an already fragile economy.

The government will also increase its role in healthcare, pushing a public option that could crush the private insurance industry. Democrats would likely follow Bernie Sanders’s lead and go all in on Medicare for All. We will also see a version of the Green New Deal become a reality — a multitrillion-dollar boondoggle that will do nothing to improve the environment and give government more control of the private sector.

In the past, Biden has not been for all these items on the leftist agenda. He did not support taxpayer-funded abortion, and he opposed Medicare for All. But Biden wants to be president, and he will do pretty much whatever the radical Left wants in order to gain support. Never one of the brightest bulbs in politics, Biden’s questionable cognitive faculties of late will make controlling him an easy task for the Left. That’s why Biden winning the 2020 election will be detrimental to the country, and giving him a Senate majority will be nothing short of a disaster for America.
