Two of the most basic resources humanity needs to survive and flourish are abundant amounts of affordable food and energy. The technological development and growth of these two things has been foundational to allowing the development of the modern world. If not for this advancement, humanity would still be living in the dark ages.

Unfortunately, a return to the dark ages seems to be the goal of many leftist politicians given the absurd policies they promote and seek to foist upon an all-too-unsuspecting electorate.

Joe Biden and his administration have been attempting to force the country into a net zero carbon emissions pipe dream. We’re told this is needed in order to save the planet, so Biden wages war against fossil fuels — despite the fact that doing so has saddled Americans with 40-year-high inflation, effectively making everyone poorer.

Biden’s “solution” to the sky-high inflation he and the Democrats caused by spending trillions of taxpayers dollars was to spend hundreds of billions more, significantly increasing the national debt. The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan was simply an opportunity for Democrats to take advantage of the COVID pandemic to spend big bucks on their special interest programs and power-grabbing wishlist.

One of those special interests is the “organic” farm industry. Biden’s Department of Agriculture recently announced the creation of a $300 million program that would help promote organic farming. The idea is that “organically” grown food is somehow better than non-organic, but much of that notion is simply perception rather than scientific reality.

Non-organic foods may be much cheaper than organic, but there’s little indication that they are any less healthy. As USDA Secretary Dan Glickman observed back in 2000 after organic food standards were announced: “The organic label is a marketing tool. It is not a statement about food safety. Nor is ‘organic’ a value judgment about nutrition or quality.”

What everyone knows about organic food is that it costs more, and some of that has to do with the lower-yield efficiency that comes from growing organic foods.

So why is the Biden administration promoting organic farms? Well, similar to the push for electric vehicles, they are picking winners and losers. These leftist Democrats simply don’t trust the American people to make the best choices for themselves. The USDA’s announcement notes, “The number of non-certified organic farms actively transitioning to organic production dropped by nearly 71 percent since 2008.” Evidently, not enough Americans have bought into the organic food fad, and therefore farmers stopped chasing the trend.

Ah, but organic equals “green,” as in earth friendly. Dutch farmers are protesting in the Netherlands after the environmental extremists seeking to limit nitrogen levels cut down on the fertilizers farmers are allowed to use, effectively killing their livelihoods. Indeed, it’s this same spirit that has Sri Lanka on a path to starvation.

And here we have the Biden administration effectively using American taxpayer dollars against their own best interests. Both with energy and with food, the Left appears hell-bent on taking the world down a foolishly destructive path that ends in greater suffering and strife.
