The Democrats’ ‘Waukesha’ Problem
The party’s soft-on-crime policies are in for a reckoning on November 8.
The verdict was no surprise, and it no doubt brought some measure of closure to a grieving community. Still, it must be disappointing to many Wisconsinites that their state doesn’t have the death penalty.
A 40-year-old career criminal and hater of white people was found guilty yesterday of 75 felonies — six counts of first-degree intentional homicide, 61 counts of recklessly endangering safety, six counts of hit-and-run causing death, and two counts of bail jumping — for having raced his red SUV into the annual Waukesha Christmas parade.
His victims were as young as eight-year-old Jackson Sparks and as old as 81-year-old Bill Hospel. One shop owner along the parade route remembers a customer giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to one of the Dancing Grannies in front of her store. Another shop owner remembers cleaning the blood off the front of her building.
The jury’s deliberations lasted around 90 minutes, which would seem to have been around 89 minutes too long. As we noted at the time, it was a preventable atrocity, and it was the direct result of the Democrat Party’s soft-on-crime policies.
How so? The violent soon-to-be mass murderer should’ve been in jail the night of Waukesha’s parade, but had been released on bail that leftist Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm helpfully admitted within hours of the massacre was “inappropriately low.”
Leave it to CNN, though, to portray the racist assailant — the guy who shared pro-Hitler memes on social media, compared cops to Klansmen, and called for violence against white people — in a sympathetic light.
“Man accused of driving a car through the Waukesha Christmas parade delivers tearful closing arguments,” read its tone-deaf headline.
Perhaps The Most Trusted Name in News™ took its cues from Dawn Woods, the mass murderer’s mom, who [referred to her son as “a caged bird” and said she hopes his case will “raise awareness of mental illness.”
We think not. Instead, we have a feeling that this case will raise awareness of the criminal-justice policies that have made this and countless other crimes of life-shattering violence possible.
As Allie Beth Stuckey put it in this case: “Reminder that if we had a functioning justice system, [the perp] would have already been in prison during the Waukesha Parade, and his victims would still be alive. Instead, two parents had to bury their 8-year-old son. Social justice kills.”
Our friend is missing a set of scare quotes, but her point is well taken: Social “justice” kills.
Democrats, of course, pay precious little attention to rampant crime except in the run-up to elections, when they begin to feel the heat from their beleaguered constituents and see their career-dissipation lights start to flicker.
We noted this yesterday after New York Republican Congressman and Army veteran Lee Zeldin took the state’s incumbent Democrat governor, Kathy Hochul, to the woodshed:
You have people who are afraid of being pushed in front of oncoming subway cars. They’re being stabbed, beaten to death on the street with hammers. Go talk to the Asian-American community and how it’s impacted them with the loss of lives, Jewish people targeted with raw, violent anti-Semitism on our streets. It just happened, yet again. We need to be talking about all of these other crimes, but instead Kathy Hochul is too busy patting herself on the back.
On the other hand, it’s comforting to know that the Democrats have their priorities in order, as evidenced by those 87,000 new cops IRS employees they want to put on the street sic on us.
Remember these outrages — the hammer attacks, the subway shoves, the wilding, the looting, the brazen thievery, the “Knockout Game,” the pro-criminal Soros DAs, the Defund Democrats, the denialism — remember them all next next Tuesday.
