Re: “Why the Debt Ceiling Showdown Matters

Every year we are bombarded with exposé after exposé of “lost” money and ridiculous spending items in gargantuan federal “budgets.” We continue to outspend the revenues brought in. Economic disaster looms. Somebody needs to STOP this economic insanity! Whatever happened to ideas like balanced budget amendments, line item vetoes, and outlawing needless and gratuitous pork barrel spending via carveouts and earmarks? We are facing an economic cliff! —Maryland

In the U.S. Constitution, one of the duties of Congress is to coin money and to regulate the value of that money. They did such a horrible job of that simple instruction that they invented the Federal Reserve to take the heat off of themselves. It did not work then, and it does not work now. Our servants will not give up a single ounce of power. They can blame the Federal Reserve for the stupid decisions made, but that is only a smokescreen. The dirty hands of Congress always appear in the muck, but they push the blame onto the Federal Reserve. —Illinois

Where to cut spending? The Department of Education is low-hanging fruit. There is no evidence that educational quality has improved since Jimmy Carter started it in 1980. Yes, it has a noisy and politically powerful constituency in the teachers unions and the student loan lobby, but the results are just not there. If you use Mr. Biden’s budget proposal numbers, that’s good for a cool $150 billion savings. We can also play the Tenth Amendment card. About 75% of federal spending is on objects not authorized in the Constitution. If we enforced the Tenth, our deficits would go away. —Minnesota

First, do not approve any additional contracts or spending. Second, freeze hiring and reduce headcounts and budgets as people leave. Third, reduce presidential and congressional staff by 50%. Fourth, lay off all contractors. Fifth, reduce the defense budget 10% to reflect lower staffing levels. Sixth, reduce the number of career commissioned officers by 25%. Seventh, eliminate the Senior Executive Service. Eighth, professionally audit departmental budgets. Penalize departments by reducing their budget by the amount of undocumented/misappropriated funds. Ninth, audit all existing contracts. Blacklist/ban/defund any entity that did not submit required documentation and/or deliverables. —Ohio

Re: “Biden Handicaps His Green Dream Economy

All of this is rather problematic in light of the fact that scientists report the recent Tonga eruption emitted enough CO2 to completely undue the last 10 years of the world’s carbon emissions reduction program and that, at present time, there are over 1,000 volcanoes that are active. The entire envirosocialist movement appears to be primarily motivated by anti-capitalism, accreting money, and gaining power under a socialist framework. They are not above using junk science to promote these objectives. —Utah

Re: “Cops Are Always ‘Driven by Racism’?

The problems that lead police to beat someone to death is the systemic piling on of discord among the ranks of colleagues, coworkers, and others who work or live in a hive mentality. The same happens with school teachers who have a certain “type” of student they don’t like. It begins with a teacher bragging about the bullying techniques used against that student. Before long, many teachers who deal with that student begin bullying as well. Then it spreads to other teachers and then other students are bullied. Whether it is school teachers, cops, gang members, prisoners, prison guards, or anyone else in a position of authority, the hive mind will eventually drive a unified hate towards a target or class of targets. —Florida

Re: “Unvaxed GOAT Wins Aussie Open

Having loved watching tennis and following Novak in his games, he’s a sight to behold on the tennis court. My respect and admiration for him increased 1,000% when he stood by his beliefs when confronted by the stupidity of the Aussie PM and the American CDC. He’s a man of poise, grace, conviction, and perseverance. As an American citizen, I’m proud of this Serbian. He’s got the guts to stand for what he believes and knows is truth. Oh that more athletes were as exemplary as he. Many accolades for his great win. Now, America, what are you going to do with Novak? —California
