Tuesday: Below the Fold

Rand Paul staffer stabbed, IRS targets a Twitter Files journalist, GOP focused on Hunter’s associates, and more.

Cross-Examination

  • Rand Paul staffer stabbed: An unidentified staffer of Republican Senator Rand Paul was stabbed multiple times, suffering life-threatening injuries in downtown Washington, DC. Paul, who himself was attacked three years ago by a neighbor at his home, addressed the attack by stating: “This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, DC. I ask you to join [wife] Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions.” The assailant has been apprehended and charged with assault and intent to kill. This latest event underscores the growing problem of violent crime across the country and in our nation’s capital.

  • Trans activists attack women’s rights speaker: British women’s rights advocate Posie Parker was attempting to speak at a “Let Women Speak” event in New Zealand when she was attacked and doused with tomato juice by a “transgender” activist. “Transgender” protesters had gathered at the event in a concerted effort to stop Parker from speaking because they have labeled her a threat to their movement. It’s hard not to see the irony of men identifying as women attacking biological women for daring to demand that equal rights for women be protected. After the attack, Parker commended those who stood against the “trans” activists: “The bravery of the New Zealand women and men who came to speak the truth shall not be forgotten. I was honoured to be amongst you. I’m so sorry.”

  • IRS targets a Twitter Files journalist: In an act that appears tremendously suspicious, Twitter Files investigative journalist Matt Taibbi’s home was visited by an IRS agent the same day he was testifying before the House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. Taibbi was notified by the IRS that his 2018 and 2021 tax returns, which had been initially “electronically accepted” by the tax agency, were now problematic due to supposed “concerns over identity theft.” Taibbi insisted that the issue is not one of underpaid taxes, and that in fact the IRS owes him a “considerable” amount of money. Chilling is the word that comes to mind, as sending an agent to a taxpayer’s home is not the normal manner in which the agency handles these types of filing concerns. This looks like the feds warning Taibbi to back off.

  • GOP focused on Hunter’s associates: As House Republicans dig deeper into the Biden family’s shady foreign business dealings, they have been implementing a “follow the money” investigation. And that means tracking down all the Bidens’ known business associates. Currently, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee has several of the Biden family’s business partners under the microscope. These individuals are Eric Schwerin, John Robinson “Rob” Walker, Devon Archer, and James Gilliar. Perhaps the country will soon get a clearer understanding of the sources of all the Biden family’s wealth.

  • College dropouts are stressed out: A growing number of college students have or are contemplating dropping out of school, and the primary reason is not due to stress over finances or difficulty of studies. According to a recent Gallup and Lumina Foundation survey, emotional stress was the leading indicator among undergraduates for considering dropping out. Catholic University of America social research professor Michael New blamed the COVID pandemic as a leading cause, though Ronald J. Rychlak, a professor at University of Mississippi School of Law, views the underlying cause as much deeper. Students “have been told there is no truth,” he observed. “Parents don’t marry, unborn babies are clumps of cells, modern life is destroying the climate, men can become women and vice versa. Modern society is leaving an imprint on the youth, and many are having a hard time dealing with it.”
