Thursday: Below the Fold
U.S. troops in Ukraine, blue-state exodus, Trump sues Cohen, and more.
Cross-Examination
U.S. troops are in Ukraine: Among the recent leak of classified Pentagon intelligence information is the revelation that several NATO countries including the U.S. have sent a small number of troops into Ukraine. Besides the U.S., other NATO countries listed are the United Kingdom, France, and Latvia. All NATO counties listed sent special forces troops, who are most likely there to train Ukrainian forces. The trouble is, if these classified leaks are accurate, it could give weight to Moscow’s claim that Russia is not merely fighting against Ukraine but in fact is fighting NATO.
Millions in transactions between Hunter, Chinese: Republicans digging into the Biden family corruption have recently unearthed more bank records which purportedly show that China sent Hunter Biden’s now-defunct joint venture company Hudson West III $1 million. The Chinese-American Cathay bank, which has offices in both Los Angeles and China, sent GOP Senators Ron Ron Johnson (WI) and Chuck Grassley (IA) bank records that show the transactions between Hunter’s former company and the also now-defunct Chinese state-owned company CEFC China Energy. Why would Beijing be so willing to share this clearly damaging information? Well, according to Johnson: “It’s the Chinese government telling Joe Biden, ‘We got the goods on you, buddy. And we’re willing to dish it up.’”
The blue-state exodus continues: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the metro area that saw the highest number of residents move out was Los Angeles, with 90,000 people leaving last year. Chicago and New York City followed suit with resident losses of more than 68,000 from Cook County, 50,000 from Queens County, and 40,000 from Kings and Bronx Counties. Meanwhile, Arizona, Texas, and Florida are experiencing the opposite, as they harbor the top counties by population growth in the nation, respectively. Indeed, the top 10 growing counties in the U.S. all happen to be in red states. The fact of the matter is, Americans who value freedom, opportunity, and lawfulness are going to those states that are upholding it. Democrat-run states are failing, which is why so many are fleeing.
GOP megadonor gives woke Harvard $300 million: With friends like these… Ken Griffin, billionaire owner of the hedge fund Citadel Securities, recently announced that he will be gifting his alma mater, Harvard University, a $300 million donation. Griffin also happened to be one of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s biggest campaign donors during his successful reelection. But it wasn’t just DeSantis; Griffin was one of the top donors to Republicans during the 2020 midterms, shelling out millions. So why would Griffin send hundreds of millions of dollars to one of the schools leading the charge for hard-left woke ideology? The short answer is name recognition. Thanks to Griffin’s donation, Harvard will rename its Graduate School of Arts and Sciences after him. The question we’re wondering is, how long before Harvard removes Griffin’s name for his history of supporting Republicans?
Trump sues Cohen for $500 million: Donald Trump’s former disgraced personal lawyer Michael Cohen did a three-year stint in prison after pleading guilty to numerous crimes, including lying before Congress. Maybe that’s why he has repeatedly expressed regret for working for Trump and has been highly critical of the former president. Well, Cohen can’t seem to catch a break, as Trump hit him with a massive $500 million lawsuit alleging that Cohen has repeatedly broken client-attorney privilege, as well as spread lies about him. Cohen’s lawyer Lanny Davis calls Trump’s lawsuit an attempt “to send a message to other potential witnesses who are cooperating with prosecutors against him.” Irrespective of speculation as to Trump’s actual motivations, he is facing his own mountain of legal battles in the midst of his 2024 presidential run.
