So, what to do when your Keynesian-cuckoo economic policies are running the country into the ground? Change the subject, certain in the knowledge that our lapdog media will more than accommodate you. And so it is that the Obama administration has announced that it will once again bypass Congress, and stop deporting illegal aliens who come to America at a young age. Make no mistake: this is classic sleight-of-hand, designed to get the country roiled up about something -- make that *anything* -- that will obscure the monumental failure best labeled Obamanomics. It is the proverbial boob bait for the masses, delivered by an administration that desperately needs Americans distracted away from the reality of a double-dip recession, record numbers of people on food stamps, millions of un- and under-employed workers, and *no plan whatsoever* for dealing with our impending fiscal Armageddon, other than blaming Republicans for their failures.

It's not often that you get not one, but two ridiculous assertions from the same politician in the same week, but President Barack Obama managed to pull it off. His first gem: "The private sector is doing fine. Where we're seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. Oftentimes cuts initiated by, you know, Governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government and who don't have the same kind of flexibility as the federal government in dealing with fewer revenues coming in." The second gem: "The notion that my White House would purposefully release classified information is offensive. It's wrong." First, quote number one. I'll spare you the obvious rebuttals by the GOP, all of which couple together the incredulity and shock that accompanies an outright gift from their main opponent in the upcoming November election. In one fell swoop, Mr. Obama revealed the depth of his economic ignorance and his socialist/Marxist reflexes. Moreover, he revealed them a day after Democrats and their government union allies had their collective butts kicked in Wisconsin, San Diego and San Jose.

One of the things I learned growing up is that, in order to actually grow up, you have to be man enough to admit when you're wrong. In one sense I feel sorry for those people who are unable to do so, because I know they're stuck in a self-imposed purgatory of semi-permanent adolescence. On the other hand, when those people are running things -- into the ground -- and dragging the adults along with them, my sympathy meter moves back to zero. Millions of people in Europe and America are going to bear the brunt of economic pain far longer than they have to. And they'll do so because people with colossal egos can't admit that their socialist utopian schemes are utter failures.

On Sunday during a segment of Meet the Press, Newark, NJ Mayor Cory Booker had the "temerity" to call the Obama administration's attacks on private equity firm Bain Capital "nauseating." That was bad enough. He then had the "unmitigated gall" to suggest that private equity firms can be helpful in creating jobs and protecting public pension investments. In other words, Mr. Booker did the one thing a black Democrat can never do: take even the smallest step off the Democrat plantation of progressive orthodoxy. And though he has bought himself a world of trouble as a result, he has done the nation an enormous favor. He has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Democrat party is a racist snakepit of intolerance and oppression.
On Monday, 43 Roman Catholic organizations filed lawsuits in a dozen different federal courts, challenging the Obama administration's mandate requiring insurance coverage for "preventive health services" inimical to their faith. The litigation represents the latest stage of a battle that began January 20th, when the administration announced that the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act would require Catholic institutions and individual Catholic employers to provide contraception, sterilization and abortifacient drugs to all of their employees. The Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services Departments are being sued by Jones Day, a law firm representing all the plaintiffs pro bono. "We have tried negotiations with the administration and legislation with the Congress -- and we'll keep at it -- but there's still no fix," said Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan in a statement.
Monday, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) head Yukiya Amano met with Fereidoun Abbasi-Davani, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), in an initial conference over Iran's nuclear program. The Iranian Fars News Agency said the meeting represented the "eagerness" of the UN to "further develop cooperation with Iran in various areas of nuclear applications," and it is clear the rosiness of the state media's characterization is not without good reason. For, while the West is banking everything on an appeasement strategy with Iran, the Islamic Republic is busy broadcasting to the world its Hitlerian intentions to annihilate Israel, daring the international community to bat an eyelash.
A bombshell report by Indianapolis television station WTHR-TV reveals that millions of illegal aliens are getting tax refunds from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The scam is an infuriating combination of Orwellian law-making, tax-preparer complicity, IRS impotency, and Congressional gridlock, all of which result in billions of dollars of fraudulent payments being made to individuals claiming to support alleged family members in Mexico.
Here are a couple of paragraphs from two stories about the city of Sacramento, California that ought to be required reading, not only for everyone in that state, but anywhere else government resorts to extortion to protect the status quo. And make no mistake: it is extortion, because the taxpaying public is being presented with a series of false either-or choices regarding the government's to fiscal solvency in many communities. This is one variation of a theme that should have a familiar ring to many of you.
The wheels have finally fallen off Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren's diversity wagon. The reliably leftist Boston Globe has issued a retraction of Warren's claim that she is 1/32 Cherokee Indian. "Correction: Because of a reporting error, a story in the May 1 Metro section and the accompanying headline incorrectly described the 1894 document that was purported to list Elizabeth Warren's great-great-great grandmother as a Cherokee," the paper writes. "The document, alluded to in a family newsletter found by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, was an application for a marriage license, not the license itself. Neither the society nor the Globe has seen the primary document, whose existence has not been proven." The original story? A headline piece in the Sunday Metro section. The correction? The third item on the correction page, typically buried deep in the paper. The larger issue? The transparent efforts of a biased media to maintain the fiction as long as possible.
