A RINO-Democrat Alliance for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Those Americans wondering why the GOP-led House – ostensibly the last bastion of defense against the legalization of 11 million illegal aliens – just threw in the towel, can stop wondering. The above sentence says it all. The conservative wing of the GOP, aka the Tea Party, overwhelmingly responsible for delivering a net gain of 63 House and 6 Senate seats to the Republican Party in 2010, must be dispatched with extreme prejudice by the so-called Establishment wing of the GOP. They are the group of Beltway insiders so thoroughly convinced they own the franchise on proper thinking, they would align themselves with progressive Democrats, rather than principled members of their own party. They are arrogant fools.

And there are few things that demonstrate that arrogant foolishness more than their one page “statement of principals,” regarding so-called comprehensive immigration reform. While they stopped short of offering law-breakers citizenship – contending that it would be “unfair” to those who emigrate legally, and, even more fatuously, that it would “harm” the rule of law – they nonetheless remain grimly determined. "Rather, these persons could live legally and without fear in the U.S., but only if they were willing to admit their culpability, pass rigorous background checks, pay significant fines and back taxes, develop proficiency in English and American civics, and be able to support themselves and their families (without access to public benefits),“ the paper states.
And true to his reputation, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) upped the ante on dishonesty. "These standards are as far as we are willing to go,” Boehner reportedly said while he and his fellow stalwarts were hashing out the above handiwork during their annual retreat. “Nancy Pelosi said yesterday that for her caucus, it is a special path to citizenship or nothing. If Democrats insist on that, then we are not going to get anywhere this year.”
Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) might be a knee-jerk, all-or-nothing dim bulb, but President Obama isn’t. "I think the principle that we don’t want two classes of people in America is a principle that a lot of people agree with, not just me and not just Democrats,“ he said during an interview with CNN. "But I am encouraged by what Speaker Boehner has said… I genuinely believe that Speaker Boehner and a number of House Republicans…really do want to get a serious immigration reform bill done. And keep in mind that the Senate bill and the legislation that I’ve supported already calls for a very long process of earning citizenship. You had to pay fines. You had to learn English. You had to pay back taxes. And you had to go to the back of the line. And at the end of that, you could get citizenship.”
Note that even as he was patting the Establishment types on the head, Obama has already pushed the envelope regarding citizenship. Such incrementalism is the mother’s milk of progressive ideology, and it is almost incomprehensible that Boehner and his merry band of go-along-to-get-along Republicans remain willfully oblivious to it. They apparently remain equally oblivious to the reality that the Obama administration has made selective law enforcement their go-to policy whenever it suits their agenda, or that a well-coordinated political campaign orchestrated by Democrats and an oh-so-willing media will begin chipping away at the GOP’s statement of principals as soon as it becomes law.
The warning signs are already out there. Last week, the government officers who would be tasked with processing the millions of applications from illegals that comprise the so-called “rigorous background checks," warned House Republicans that they can’t handle the workload. They predicted the process would be a disaster, guaranteeing that criminals would be among those approved to remain in the country. The Obama administration disputed that assessment, and said they would be up to the effort, if Congress passes a bill.
Sure they would. As the Washington Times explains, open questions remain regarding the type of documents an illegal alien would have to provide to meet the criteria for legal status, and whether or not each applicant would be personally interviewed. Do Republicans seriously believe the very same administration that completely blundered the application process for ObamaCare – despite a three year head start – would do a better job here? How soon before the campaign begins to "streamline” the process, or before the president unilaterally determines the same “honor system” currently used to “verify” health insurance subsidies and coverage based on income, will be necessary here? How many illegals might be granted legal status based on nothing more than a promise to provide documents at a later date?
That’s mockery number one. Next up, the idea that illegals must “pay significant fines and back taxes.” Again, it doesn’t take a genius to envision the massive amount of processing necessary to determine what each individual would owe, how soon they would have to pay it – and how many “hardship” exemptions would be granted along the way. Once again, imagine the political campaign centered around the idea that “targeting” people who have long endured the economic deprivation that attends to “living in the shadows,” or the same “income inequality” that afflicts their soon-to-be fellow Americans, is “mean-spirited” or “cruel.” How soon before we hear about illegal aliens who are forced to choose between paying fines and back taxes, or feeding their kids? How soon before we hear the clarion calls for “debt forgiveness,” exactly like those Democrats currently champion regarding college loans?
Getting the picture yet? It gets worse. Let’s take the next idea presented by the GOP, as in illegal aliens would have to “develop proficiency in English and American civics” before they would be granted legal status. Anyone wondering what constitutes “proficiency” in either category need only remember what constitutes proficiency in any subject for millions of American kids trapped in the public school hellholes run overwhelmingly by Democrat politicians. The hellholes where anything resembling real standards were abandoned long ago.
Yet that’s only half the equation. Proficiency in English and American civics is another way of saying “assimilation.” An American left whose political well-being depends upon dividing people by race, color, creed, religion and sexual orientation, has no interest whatsoever in assimilation. How long will it be before Democrats begin bemoaning the “irreparable harm” assimilation would inflict on the nation’s fabric of “multiculturalism,” “diversity,” and “celebrating our differences?” And how long would it be before they assail the GOP and their “real” agenda, which is all about reinforcing “white privilege?”
What about the notion that illegals must “be able to support themselves and their families without access to public benefits?” That one will be kicked to the curb just as soon as the White House holds a press conference. It will be one where President Obama is surrounded by a few “hardworking” parents and their kids, who are all doing “all the right things,” but still “can’t make ends meet” without a “temporary hand up” that any hardworking family “deserves.” Add a few sickly relatives to the entourage, and Obama will be wondering out loud what kind of country denies such people access to ObamaCare as well.
What about Boehner’s line in the sand regarding citizenship? Obama has already laid the foundation for blowing up that idea with his “two classes of people” canard. As soon as illegals get status, expect Democrats to push the idea that people who are now “playing by the rules” should not be forced to accept the “second-tier,” or “slave-like” conditions that denying them citizenship produces.
Game, set, match, Republicans. Every item on your agenda gets mutilated beyond recognition, and your party gets beaten like a rented mule, every step along the way.
And for what? Not the Hispanic vote. Even after outright amnesty was granted to 2.7 million illegals in 1986, and George G.W. Bush hammered loser Michael Dukakis in the 1988 presidential election, Bush got 30 percent of the Hispanic vote and Dukakis got 69 percent. It was hardly an anomaly. In every presidential election going back to 1980, Hispanics have favored Democrats over Republicans by an average margin of 64-31 percent.
And Hispanics are only part of the equation. A column by Ann Coulter illuminating a study by Phyllis Schlafly reveals that immigration per se spells doom for the GOP. Coulter explains reality in no uncertain terms. “For at least a century, there’s never been a period when a majority of immigrants weren’t Democrats,” she writes. And as the stats she presents show, immigrants from all ethnic backgrounds have little regard for the Constitution, and are largely indifferent to American exceptionalism – even as they heartily support ObamaCare, bigger government, gun control, and affirmative action.
You know who their polar opposites are? The millions of conservative Americans the Establishment GOP is determined to abandon. A group that likely comprises 40 percent of the electorate. Americans who are now being forced to reconcile the reality that they have no representation whatsoever in Washington, D.C. People who wonder why the GOP has abandoned them.
Here’s why, my fellow Americans. Because the ruling class is still the ruling class, with all its attendant perks and privileges, regardless of whether one inhabits the majority or minority party. Because the surest route to a lucrative post-Congressional career is to align oneself with the desires of the Chamber of Commerce, and companies like Hewlett-Packard, Cisco, United Technologies, American Express, Procter & Gamble, T-Mobile, Archer-Daniels-Midland, Cigna and Texas Instruments. All of them have petitioned Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform, because America needs to remain globally “competitive.”
Every company above has laid off a combined total of thousands of American workers over the past few years. And the Chamber of Commerce, which has made money hand over fist supporting the cheap labor, is more than willing to take a portion of than money and donate it to “pro business” Establishment Republicans, even as it has promised to spend $50 million targeting the conservative Republicans who oppose them in the 2014 primaries.
That’s the real story behind comprehensive immigration reform. And it comes courtesy of an Establishment GOP who would rather serve in Democrat “heaven” than rule in the “hell” they would endure from the American left, big business, labor unions and open border activists that standing up for conservative principals – and ordinary Americans – would engender.
And so, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Even worse, this pathetic reality will be sold as “bipartisanship.” A collaboration of traitorous, New World Order hacks is far closer to the truth.
