Fallen Heroes
Last week, Detective Sean Suiter was shot in the head and killed while investigating a murder in Baltimore. Friday, Officer Brian Shaw of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, was shot and killed during a traffic stop. Sunday, Border Patrol Agent Rogelio Martinez was attacked and killed. His partner is in serious condition. These law enforcement officers looked like America: Detective Suiter was black. Officer Shaw was white. Agent Martinez was Hispanic.
In our identity politics-obsessed culture, if three people of any ethic group were murdered in cold blood, we would be inundated with news stories and opinion pieces asking, “What is going on in America today?”
But once someone puts on a uniform and dedicates his life to protecting us, he is forgotten by our elites. Street thug Freddie Gray’s death sparked days of riots. Where are the protests for Detective Suiter?
If Rogelio Martinez had been an illegal immigrant killed at the border, there would be marches demanding open borders.
Baltimore’s residents no longer feel safe. What happened there? The Obama administration declared war on the Baltimore police force. The mayor apologized for calling thugs “thugs.”
This year, the Suiter, Shaw and Martinez families will have the worst Thanksgiving of their lives. No one in Hollywood, in the media, or in academia seems to care.
But I know there are millions of Americans who do care, who deeply appreciate the service and sacrifice of our first responders and those in law enforcement. We appreciate and honor our fallen heroes.
And President Trump cares too. Respect for law and order was a central theme of his campaign and remains a point of emphasis for his administration. The president tweeted Sunday, “Border Patrol Officer killed at Southern Border, another badly hurt. We will seek out and bring to justice those responsible. We will, and must, build the Wall!”
Here’s another disgusting example of the disrespect the men and women of the thin Blue Line must endure: Radical students at Brooklyn College in New York City are circulating a petition to ban police officers from campus. The administration is acquiescing to this nonsense by limiting officers’ access to campus bathrooms.
Great Disrespect
While we’re on the subject of demonstrating disrespect, Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch is making headlines. During an NFL game in Mexico City, Lynch sat through the American national anthem but he stood up for the Mexican anthem.
President Trump noticed and tweeted, “Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”
Since he obviously has more respect for Mexico, perhaps Lynch should just stay there. I wonder if he has noticed that the massive flow of migrants crossing our border are people leaving Mexico to come here. That’s really odd if America is as “unjust” as the Left claims.
The next time Congress considers immigration reform, I suggest a new quota system: For every new immigrant who wants to become an American, let’s deport one progressive who hates America. Let’s start with anyone who describes Kim Jong-un as their “hero.”
Sen. Ellison?
As you know, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is in the middle of a serious controversy and there are calls for him to resign. If he does, there are potential implications for Israel-related policies. There is a boomlet in Minnesota for Gov. Mark Dayton (D) to replace Franken with Rep. Keith Ellison, which would make him the first Muslim senator.
Ellison has a very radical background. At one point in in his life, he adopted a Muslim name. He was a supporter of the anti-Semitic Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam, and he has defended cop killer Assata Shakur, who fled to Cuba.
“Undisputed Leader”
Here’s some good news: The International Energy Agency predicts that in the near future, “The United States will be the undisputed leader of global oil and gas markets for decades to come.”
Thanks to the development of shale oil and fracking, the U.S. energy industry will produce more oil than Saudi Arabia and more natural gas than Russia.
This success comes in spite of Barack Obama and the progressive Left, which hates fossil fuels. Hillary Clinton wanted to ban fracking by regulation. During a debate in Michigan last year, Clinton said this:
“So by the time we get through all of my conditions, I do not think there will be many places in America where fracking will continue to take place.”
Thankfully, there was a candidate for president who was committed to developing our energy resources, committed to growing our economy and creating new jobs, and committed to making America great again. Thankfully, Donald Trump won.
Unfortunately, the Left is still doing everything it can to frustrate this progress.
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D), who is on his way out of office, announced last week that Virginia would join the New England cap-and-trade scheme called the “Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative” (RGGI).
This scheme forces power plants to reduce their carbon emissions by 30% and forces states to use more expensive alternative sources, thereby driving up costs for consumers.
Currently, Virginians enjoy electricity prices that are below the national average. But thanks to Gov. McAuliffe, that won’t last much longer. The New England states that make up the RGGI have electricity prices that are among the highest in the nation.
