As we reported yesterday, the migrant caravan from Central America has reached our border. As frustrating as this caravan may be, it is important to remember that Barack Obama is no longer president. 

If Obama were still in office, he would welcome the group which was assembled by a left-wing organization that believes in no borders. Obama would instruct immigration officials to process them, give them court dates and proceed to release them into the U.S., even though only one of out of five usually show up for their court date. 

Under Obama, the U.S. government was producing flyers encouraging illegal immigrants to use food stamps. Central American media outlets were advertising Obama’s lax immigration policies.

In this case, President Trump immediately warned the 1,500 marchers and began pressuring Mexico to stop them. The Mexican government deported 400 of them. 

Many of the remaining marchers applied for asylum in Mexico, which is exactly what they should have done from the beginning. If they are fleeing conditions in Guatemala, Honduras or wherever and safely make it to Mexico, then they should claim asylum in Mexico.

But 150 or so marchers proceeded to the U.S. border. Some attempted to cross our border illegally. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Monday that 11 migrants were arrested and charged for illegally entering the United States. Some will face felony charges.

“The United States will not stand by as our immigration laws are ignored and our nation’s safety is jeopardized,” Sessions declared.

That is exactly the message we should be sending. And it is only happening because Donald Trump is president today. 

Let me remind you, my friends, that Hillary Clinton promised to end virtually all deportations. Her position was, according to The Washington Post, “a major break from Obama.” In other words, Hillary ran to Obama’s left on immigration. Now, open borders has become the default position of the Left.

Elections have consequences.

Hogg vs. History

Anti-Second Amendment activist David Hogg has become a national figure in the weeks since the mass shooting at a Parkland high school, where he is a student. David has now progressed from demonizing gun owners to sharing his deep thoughts on world history. 

So far those views prove why we say that wisdom comes with age. They are also a reminder that David is only 18. Here’s what he tweeted earlier this week:

Throughout history violence and war only creates more of itself for example WWI -> WWII -> Cold War -> Korean War -> Vietnam and up to today. While nonviolent moments like Gandhi’s, the suffrage movement or Civil Rights movement lead to peace and long-lasting change. Ours will too.

Does David know that World War II actually defeated real Nazis? Does he understand that it stopped the mass murder of Jews and saved Western Civilization?

Does he know that the Cold War wasn’t actually a war? That’s why they call it “Cold.” It was a competition between the free world, led by the United States, and the communist world, led by the Soviet Union, that resulted in the fall of the Soviet Union, thank God. 

As far as Gandhi’s nonviolent movement leading to peace and long-lasting change, I must have missed the videos of millions of Indians and Pakistanis singing Kumbaya. Both countries are torn with ethnic strife.

The disturbing thing is not that an 18 year-old believes this. I entertained a lot of naïve notions when I was his age. What is disturbing is that our high school students are being taught this by educational elites who ought to know better.

Wolf Doubles Down

Comedienne Michelle Wolf, whose vulgar performance has threatened the future of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, isn’t backing down in the face of withering criticism. In an interview with NPR, Wolf declared, “I wouldn’t change a single word. I’m very happy with what I said, and I’m glad I stuck to my guns.”

Unfortunately, her performance really wasn’t all that shocking. That is what she is known for. I don’t expect her to take anything back. 

But here’s the point: The sophisticated members of the Washington press corps chose her. I presume they know how to use Google. And the fact that they selected her speaks volumes about the Washington press corps.

More Radical Mosques

In previous reports, we have noted the extremism and hatred being preached in mosques around the country. Our friends at the Middle East Media Research Institute have recently highlighted two more — in Pompano Beach, Florida, and in Chicago, Illinois.

I won’t get into the details of the bizarre rants at each mosque. But I do want to raise what I believe is an important public policy issue.

We were monitoring mosques to some extent after 9/11. But Barack Obama and the Left shut it down with accusations of racism and profiling. The FBI conducted much of the surveillance, but that changed to “Muslim outreach” under then-FBI Director Robert Mueller. 

The result was predictable. Warnings were missed and people died in the Boston Marathon bombing and the San Bernardino attack. The jihadists who carried out those attacks were connected to radical mosques. Had the surveillance continued, the attacks might have been prevented.

Last week, much of the world was captivated by the birth of the newest royal baby, Louis Arthur Charles. But it was the fate of another British baby that demonstrated how precarious life has become for those deemed unworthy of living.
