This American Jew Will Indeed Vote This Fall
I’ll vote for America under siege by leftism.
By Howard Sachs, M.D.
This week at our synagogue, a layperson and clergyman addressed from the pulpit the horrid behavior of a policeman in Minneapolis. Our otherwise wonderful police and other professionals — lawyers, teachers, doctors, and clergymen — will always have a few bad apples who brutalize others by choosing darkness. It’s in the very nature of humanity. We do not live in a utopia. We never will. Even still, these well-meaning folks in my synagogue implored congregants like me to be sure to vote this fall and, in the meantime, participate in a peaceful demonstration on the main thoroughfare outside.
I know what they meant. I know it because I have some common sense. I am a member of a synagogue that votes Democrat 95% of the time. I experience, listen to, interact with, and read what many of them have to say. These folks last sabbath were saying very clearly, I think, to get out and vote for the Left and basically protest America’s pervasive racism. I wholeheartedly decline their invitation.
This American Jew will indeed get out to vote. I will vote Republican because I know the greatest threat to all of us is not COVID-19, global warming, non-gender bathrooms, conservatives, or our wonderful police. It is the existential threat of leftism whose ideology has invaded almost all our institutions. It is destroying every value and every entity it touches, from the arts to our precious Boy Scouts, from our race relations to our schools, from our government to our family structures, economy, social fabric, borders, and now even science. (A lady at the Mayo Clinic asked me recently, “What sex was your patient assigned at birth?”)
Just this week I listened to a woman of the Left on national TV calling for ripping down statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The reporter was calm and did not push back because such vile notions are now normal in America. This regressive illiberal ideology is attacking the heart of our civilization. It is a deadly evil in our midst. This ideology has used lies as its primary bludgeon against its foes. The lies are so pervasive and wanton that it’s hard to keep track. Just listen for a week at our media — the mouthpiece for the Left. It tells you clearly and repetitively the litany of lies. The list begins with our founders, whom they utterly reject as men who created a wonderful country or contained supreme moral fiber and liberality despite their flaws. Recently, the lies have piled on at a dizzying pace. Those lies include:
We have a free press.
American history is vile.
America was founded on slavery in 1619.
Russian collusion.
White privilege.
Republicans are stupid, irrational deplorables.
Capitalism stinks; socialism is great.
$25 trillion of federal debt is nothing to worry about.
Jews, blacks, gays, and Latinos cannot be conservative.
You can change your sex.
There are a hundred genders.
Children who think they are a different sex should be honored, not helped.
We have a living Constitution.
“Hands up, don’t shoot.”
The Second Amendment doesn’t mean individuals can own a gun.
You can keep your doctor.
Charlottesville.
Killing an unborn boy or girl is a woman’s choice.
There is no need for sound money.
Men and women and fathers and mothers are the same.
Our universities are liberal places of open inquiry and thought.
The presidency was stolen.
The Iran deal will stop the mullahs from getting nuclear weapons.
Our non-orthodox churches and synagogues generally preach Biblical values.
Israel is the problem in the Middle East.
“They’re going to put y'all back in chains.”
Each white man has racism in his DNA.
If you don’t vote Democrat, “then you ain’t black.”
Our public schools teach liberal American values and virtue.
The Ukraine phone call was nefarious.
Open borders are great for America.
The impeachment of Donald Trump was righteous.
Our military is a force for evil.
Brett Kavanaugh was a gang rapist.
The president is an anti-Semite.
General Michael Flynn is a traitor.
Religion is a joke and has no place in the public square.
Our police are racist.
Trump did not lead us into a fantastically strong economy.
Conservative judges are a threat to our freedom.
Fossil fuels will annihilate humankind.
Nuclear power is dangerous.
But the grandest of lies is that our citizenry is, as Hillary Clinton said, racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, xenophobic, and sexist. These are despicable falsehoods washing over each of us each day, defaming and wrecking this greatest of countries. They are at the level and intensity of Joseph Goebbels’s propaganda machine in 1930s Germany. As a liberal (now called a conservative Republican), I reject such lies.
I have always embraced the truth that, indeed, black lives matter, as do all human lives. I also ascribe to the truth that, thank heavens, we live in this incredibly non-racist society with 97.896 % of its people not caring a bit about skin coloration until Barack Obama entered the White House and put us at each other’s white and black throats. I thank the Lord that I, as a Jew, was born in a country founded on wonderful, unique, and extraordinary values. We are inheritors of Athens and Jerusalem. Our history is blessed with the stories of millions of us working for over two centuries, many giving their lives, to meet the ideals of these values.
I thank the Lord that our great justice system is, as fairly typical, rapidly bringing the offending police officers in the George Floyd case to justice. The terrible death of Mr. Floyd is merely another worn and tired excuse for men on the Left to continue to burn down, from their view, this vile place called America. (The Left uses the gentler word “transform.”)
Seventy-four hundred of our precious young Americans with dark skin were murdered last year, over 90% by other black young men, the vast majority murdered in our leftist-run cities. But these precious lives were lost not because of their skin pigmentation but mostly because of the lack of strong families. That profound truth is not discussed. Neither is the truth that leftist culture has wrecked these cities for decades, which has led to the destruction of the family, the church, education, the economy, and, most importantly, fatherhood.
So indeed, my fellow Jewish people, I will be voting this fall, but I will not be protesting on the street. I will be voting for the truth — that America is a great land of decency and liberty; that its values are sublime; that its history is generally great; that its police are wonderful; and that its founders are a gift from God, despite their human flaws. I will be voting conservative because the core of the Republican Party embraces truth, not oceans of lies. I will be voting to say we have been blessed with Judeo-Christian values — the best values ever produced.
If the Left wins this November and is not purged from the midst of our great institutions, then America is essentially gone. Millions of fellow citizens would love such a win. They are, sadly, fools. I’d say to them, “Brace yourselves for a reversion to the default of mankind.” It was a dark and brutal humanity for millennia until the values of the Bible, the West, and America came along. Like President Reagan said, we are just one generation away from such darkness. I fear it is close at hand.
The Left has been masters at brainwashing millions with its lies and propaganda. Now, just a few conservatives man the wall. They man it with a few things like talk radio, Prager University, The Wall Street Journal, and a few fine websites. But our few orthodox Jewish and evangelical Christian institutions are under daily attack by the Left. I pray there are enough of conservatives left to prevail.
