Judging Character

White people are constantly being called out for their past sins and present misbehavior.

Martin Luther King, Jr., pleaded with Americans to judge people by their character, not by the color of their skin. In the 53 years since he was murdered, his words have resonated with most Americans. The exceptions to the rule are his fellow blacks.

Whether they’re members of the BLM gang of hooligans or members of Congress, they are constantly calling out white people for their past sins and present misbehavior, which seems to center around their actually arresting black criminals and questioning the morals and values of people who, far too often, seem happy to rely on the labor of others to support them and their fatherless children.

If they’re not claiming that the cops have overstepped their bounds for merely doing their job, they’re calling for reparations for deeds done 150 years ago by people who are no longer alive to people who are no longer alive.

But it’s not only white people who are the victims of their bigotry. Asians are currently being attacked by ignorant blacks who blame them for introducing the Covid virus to America. But it’s nothing new. During the L.A. riots of 1992, black thugs specifically targeted stores and shops owned by Orientals.

Even before that, Stephanie Hart reports that when she was a young student in San Francisco, black students regularly beat up Asian students. Probably for paying attention in class and getting good grades.

There was less of the bullying once very large Samoans began moving into the district.

It seems that when you don’t have fathers dispensing discipline in the home, your next best solution to the mindless brutality of black punks is to fly in some 250-pound Pacific Islanders.

Although Democrats will dismiss it as coincidental, the combination of L.A. Mayor Garcetti tying the hands of the cops and allowing BLM and Antifa to riot with impunity and the anti-police policies of D.A. George Gascón, have led to a 108% increase in homicides over the past year.

It would be bad enough if the Democrats simply couldn’t connect the dots, but what makes them so maddening is their refusal to even acknowledge the existence of dots.

I am hearing from more and more depressed people as we find ourselves wading deeper and deeper into the swill of the Biden administration.

The other day I heard from a woman, who wrote a heartfelt “I am soooooooo worried about our beloved country. What can I do? I mean that. Things seem so hopeless.”

I replied: “My best suggestion is that, to the very best of your ability, you try to ignore the universe in which the politician’s rule, and focus on the universe in which you, your dog or cat, your friends and your family, exist.”

I might have added that she should probably cut down on her news consumption and pretty much limit it to my articles, where the news comes filtered through my utter contempt for the ruling classes, for political correctness and for an ever-increasing number of sacred cows.

A friend who prefers to remain anonymous passed along a meme that’s been around a while but has become increasingly relevant in a world in which the brass at the Pentagon see their mission to make the military more welcoming to women, homosexuals and transgenders, because nothing frightens an enemy more than a sexually diverse military coming at them.

In any case, the meme reads: “When I joined the Army, it was illegal to be homosexual. Then it became optional. And now it’s legal. I’m getting the f— out before the Democrats make it mandatory.”

Art Hershey passed along a video of Joe Biden tripping not once but twice while going up the steps of Air Force One.

But much to the chagrin of Kamala Harris, he popped right up, got to the top of the steps, turned and gave one of those salutes that looks like the tip of the cap common to baseball players acknowledging the cheers of the fans as they round third base after hitting a home run.

Meanwhile, the Vice President was somewhere, establishing her alibi, but now gnashing her teeth, muttering: “Curses! Foiled again!”

Norm Silvers passed along a meme that read: “If there was a barnyard election, the pigs, chickens and cows, would always vote for the hand that feeds them…. even though that same hand will lead them to the slaughterhouse one day. People, that’s Socialism at its finest.”

One of the stranger words in the lexicon is gerrymander. Its origin is equally odd. It seems that a couple of centuries ago there was a governor of Massachusetts named Elbridge Gerry who persuaded the state legislature to draw redistricting lines that favored his political party, the Democrat-Republicans.

It turned out that in doing so, one of the districts wound up looking not looking like a square, but squiggly, resembling in the words of one imaginative critic like a salamander. A bystander, overhearing the remark, said, “No, it’s actually a gerrymander.”

It’s rather a shame that after all these years, Governor Gerry is only remembered for his role in what has come to be a form of cheap political skullduggery.

The man would go on to become the fifth vice-president of the nation, serving under James Madison. And I’m certain he would have preferred being remembered as a signer of the Declaration of Independence and the man about whom John Adams enthused: “If every man here was a Gerry, the liberties of America would be safe against the gates of Earth and Hell!”

Further proof that living, as I do, in Los Angeles, I am not merely in the belly of the beast, but inside an insane asylum, comes in the form of a public announcement from the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

It reads: “Restaurants can open indoors with the following conditions: one household per indoor table, with a limit of six people and at 25% capacity.

"Outdoor patio dining will no longer require the same household per table.

"However, the Department is not yet permitting television viewing while dining.”

The edict raises certain unavoidable questions. For instance, why are there different rules for indoor and outdoor dining? And what is it that the folks at the Department of Public Health know about the connection between Covid and watching TV that they’re not telling us?

One of the arguments offered up by those who favor a wide-open border is that because of a decreasing birth rate among the native-born, we are not replacing ourselves.

Along with just about everything else about what passes for our immigration policy, this has me mystified.

Why do we have to replace ourselves? What is so wonderful about having a population of 330 million or 400 million or, eventually, half a billion?

I can see an argument made for a population of 250 million or even 200 million. More food and energy for fewer people, better conservation, less noise pollution, less crowded roads and more parking spaces.

And if the dip in population also meant fewer homeless derelicts and illegal aliens, it would be cause for donning party hats and tossing confetti.

At least the politicians in Australia (not just a country, but an entire continent with a population of just 29 million) haven’t all lost their minds.

Their Senate just passed a motion banning the use of distorted gender-neutral language such as “chestfeeding” for “breastfeeding.”

The resolution, passed along by my spy in Oz, Mike Niederberger, goes on to state that “Our fundamental biology and relationships are represented through the following descriptors — mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister, boy, girl, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, female, male, man, woman, lady, gentleman, Mr., Mrs., Ms., sir, madam, dad, mum, husband and wife.

"An individual’s right to choose their descriptors and pronouns for personal use must not dehumanize the human race and undermine gender.”

The motion also called on the government to ensure gender neutral terms are no longer included in any government material, including legislation, websites, employee documentation and training materials.

Our nation was founded by unbelievably wise and commonsensical men. Australia was founded by criminals banished from England.

It’s anyone’s guess how our two countries managed to wind up in their present conditions.
