Tuesday night’s State of the Union Address was a perfect opportunity for Joe Biden to tack back to the middle and present a slightly left-of-center agenda, something in the Bill Clinton mold of the old Democrat Party, which many Americans thought Joe Biden represented.

It would have made sense for him to do so. Americans clearly are not happy with Biden’s current agenda and direction. He’s polling in the 30s, and 78% of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track. A course correction is definitely in order.

There’s a huge foreign policy crisis. There are staggering increases in the price of oil, which if they continue will tip the country into a recession.

He could have easily cited those things as legitimate reasons for why he’s restarting the Keystone pipeline, and ordering the federal bureaucracy to suspend the growing number of regulations on our energy industry.

He could have declared that he is immediately reinstating all programs to limit illegal immigration and to finish Trump’s border wall because we cannot have Russian assassins and saboteurs crossing our southern border as they are currently doing in Ukraine.

By the way, that’s not merely a hypothetical concern. More than 4,000 Russians crossed our southern border last year, many of them at the end the year after Putin’s started massing troops on Ukraine’s borders.

Yes, the left would have howled in rage. But Biden’s approval ratings would have jumped 10 points or more overnight, perhaps saving any chance his party might have of holding Congress.

But Joe Biden didn’t say any of that because he is owned lock, stock and barrel by the progressive left. He acts like he isn’t afraid of Putin, but he surely is afraid of AOC, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and the left. As a result, his speech was a mixture of gaslighting and doubling down on failed ideas.

I’ll provide a few examples below. But first I want to comment on something that should be of deep concern to everyone.

Fright Night

When I focused on the TV screen Tuesday night and saw the mumbling 79 year-old Biden and the bizarre acting 81 year-old Nancy Pelosi and the younger but clueless Vice President Kamala Harris, arguably the three most powerful government officials in America, I literally feared for our country, our safety and our freedom.

Any adversary of the United States looking at that trio would be telling their generals, “We’ve got a limited time to grab what we want, but we need to do it now before real leaders take office in America.”

I don’t want to be mean-spirited, but Pelosi’s physical reactions were beyond strange. Did you see her rubbing her hands and grinning weirdly when Biden spoke about servicemen dying of cancer? What was that?!?

And Biden slurred his words and seemed increasingly incapable of even reading a teleprompter correctly.

He said Putin’s invasion of Ukraine “would never gain the hearts and souls of the Iranian people.” He meant the Ukrainian people.

He said we should “investigate crime prevention and community policing.” He meant we should “invest in crime prevention and community policing.”

And he also said this: “There are more corporations incorporated in America than every other state in America combined, and I still won 36 years in a row.”

Care to take a wild guess what that meant? I’ve heard him make similar remarks before, so I know. He often says that there are more corporations registered in Delaware than in any other state in America and he still won 36 years in a row. Translated: He is making the argument that he and businesses got along just fine.

The reality is that the president is slipping. He’s not the man he was just three or four years ago. And the American people know it. That’s why 66% of Americans want him to take a cognitive test as quickly as possible, and the results should be made public immediately.

The left made false charges about Donald Trump’s mental acuity. He took a cognitive test and passed it with flying colors.

Biden ended his speech by saying, “Go get him!” Get who?

He definitely wasn’t talking about the Taliban. He surrendered to them in Afghanistan.

He wasn’t talking about illegal immigrants. He won’t let ICE “get” them, let alone deport them.

He wasn’t not talking about communist Chinese spies. He stopped the Department of Justice from looking for them.

I have no idea who or what Biden was talking about, and I suspect he doesn’t either. But it was a perfect ending to his bumbling, mumbling speech.

He’s Gaslighting You

Joe Biden’s State of the Union address is best described as a “Gaslighting of the Union” address. Gaslighting is when you tell a person something completely untrue and make them feel like they’re crazy for not believing you. And Biden definitely tried to gaslight you.

While discussing crime, Biden said, “The answer is not to Defund the police. The answer is to FUND the police.” But he has undermined law enforcement his entire presidency. He has called law enforcement “systemically racist.”

He thinks you don’t know that all the big city mayors defunding the police and the liberal politicians pushing this radical agenda are in fact his political allies.

Who knows best who’s on the side of the police? Well, that would be the police, and every major police union endorsed Trump over Biden.

Look at where it matters.

• His Department of Justice is at war with police departments all over the country.

• He’s putting left-wing judges on the courts who will undermine the police.

• His Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is soft on sex offenders and criminals generally.

• He will not condemn the extremists in his party who not only don’t want bail for serious crimes, but who are publicly calling for the emptying of our prisons.

Then he said, “We need to secure the border.” I kept waiting for the punch line. There’s never been an open border like Joe Biden’s open border!

• He has attacked Border Patrol agents for simply doing their jobs.

• Hundreds of millions of dollars of steel is rusting in the desert because Biden refuses to build the wall to secure the border.

• He’ll send troops to defend Ukraine’s borders, but he won’t defend our borders.

And then he immediately demanded amnesty for millions of people who illegally entered the country, effectively inviting even more illegal aliens to walk across the border.

But the biggest gaslight of all was when Biden talked about the coronavirus. He said, “Let’s stop looking at COVID-19 as a partisan dividing line… Let’s stop seeing each other as enemies, and start seeing each other for who we really are: Fellow Americans.”

Really? Biden has spent the past year constantly dividing us over the virus!

• He said it was an “epidemic of the unvaccinated.” That was obviously wrong! Plenty of vaccinated people got infected and spread the virus.

• Biden tried to crush the unvaccinated, including many frontline heroes, by getting them fired from their jobs, crippling their ability to provide for their families.

• When conservative governors opened their states months ago, Biden mocked them as “Neanderthals.”

• Joe Biden and the left directed more vitriol at our “Fellow Americans” than they have ever directed at communist China!

• In fact, Biden was so determined to smash anyone who resisted COVID protocols that he ordered Justin Trudeau to smash the Freedom Convoy truckers in Canada.

I could go on with more examples of Biden insisting that your eyes and ears are lying to you. But you get the point.

Random Observations

• Where is Anthony Fauci? The “science” on masks conveniently changed all of a sudden, just in time for Biden’s big speech Tuesday night. Mask mandates are dropping left and right. And the ubiquitous Dr. Fauci is nowhere to be seen.

• Russian tanks are rolling into Ukraine. Murders are at record highs. Gas prices are through the roof. But Biden and his party are so committed to cultural extremism that the transgender movement got a shoutout in the State of the Union.

• Biden won’t build a wall on the border to protect you and your family, but Democrats built a wall around the Capitol Tuesday night to protect them from, well, I don’t know exactly.

• Hats off to Rep. Lauren Boebert. She’s getting slammed for breaking decorum for yelling at Biden, saying he was responsible for putting 13 U.S. soldiers in coffins, killed during the Afghanistan withdrawal fiasco. Biden never mentioned Afghanistan at all Tuesday night or the sacrifice of these 13 heroes. The media and the left are furious that Boebert “interrupted” Biden’s speech. I am more concerned about how 13 American families have had their lives interrupted with unimaginable grief.
