The fiasco that occurred in a Manhattan courtroom Tuesday should frighten every American, regardless of party affiliation and their views of Donald Trump.

Let’s be perfectly clear about what happened: The neo-Marxist left is attempting to put a former president and a leading presidential candidate in prison for a series of petty bookkeeping missteps.

Some might say, “I don’t like Trump, why should I be upset?” Here’s why: This is the stuff of tyranny. It is a gross abuse of the law. It is political persecution.

President Xi of communist China routinely puts his political opponents in jail. President Putin of Russia, at this very moment, has put his leading critic in prison for nine years on contrived charges.

Throughout the 20th century, the United States has spoken out when we see a country sinking into oppression and abandoning the norms of free nations. In every case, the most obvious and disturbing example is when people who gain power use power to jail their political opponents.

That is always an advanced sign of tyranny. That’s exactly what was on full display in that Manhattan courtroom.

So, whether you realize it or not, your liberty was in danger in that courtroom Tuesday. Because if they can do it to a billionaire and a former president, they can and they will do it to you!

Meanwhile, Joe Biden and his family have benefitted from millions of dollars from communist China. And yet the entire legal system appears to be ignoring what may well be the largest scandal in American history.

Many people are asking, “What’s going to happen to Donald Trump now?” The real question we should be asking is this: What’s going to happen to America if this abuse of the law continues?

The Weaponization Of The Law

It is impossible to overstate just how serious this moment is. I’ll get to the legal issues in a moment, but here’s what you really must understand: NONE OF THAT MATTERS!

Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy compared today’s progressive movement to Soviet-era Bolsheviks, making Bragg’s prosecution the equivalent of a Stalinist show trial. This is political persecution plain and simple.

Here’s how McCarthy put it:

“It’s not that today’s Bolshevik leftists do not want Trump convicted… But more than that, they want him persecuted and his followers vicariously menaced.

"They want him put through a prohibitively expensive, emotionally wrenching, psychologically exhausting, and publicly humiliating spectacle… Convicting Donald Trump is secondary. For today’s Bolshevik left, the objective is to make the process the penalty.”

Bragg’s Bad Bet

Now that Soros-puppet Alvin Bragg has finally shown his hand with the release of his indictment against Trump, it’s clear that he’s making a really bad bet on a number of long-shot legal theories.

The foundation of Bragg’s whole case is that he’s bumping up misdemeanor bookkeeping charges to felonies on the allegation that Trump was covering up a second crime.

But multiple legal experts expressed alarm over the fact that nowhere in his 34-count indictment does Bragg identify the alleged second crime.

This is borderline prosecutorial misconduct. How is Trump’s legal team supposed to defend itself against unknown charges? That’s the whole point of an indictment — to list the charges!

As constitutional law Professor Jonathan Turley explained:

“The indictment seems to address the lack of legal precedent with a lack of specificity on the underlying ‘secondary’ felony. Bragg has done nothing more than replicated the same flawed theory dozens of times. This is where math and the law meet. If you multiply any number by zero, it is still zero.

"If the New York bench retains any integrity, this case will be thrown out as legally improper with an admonition to Bragg and his office for politicizing the criminal justice process…

"The Bragg prosecution is the denial of the core legal principle of blind justice… It is not just selective prosecution, it is exclusive prosecution for Trump and Trump alone.”

Speaking on Fox News, Andrew McCarthy said:

“[Bragg’s] got to tell us what he’s planning to do, and more importantly, he’s got to tell Donald Trump… Even before you get to the statute of limitations and whether he’s got jurisdiction to enforce federal law — I would dismiss [the indictment] on its face because it fails to state a crime. Here it fails to state a crime 34 times!”

In fact, Professor Turley suggested that Bragg’s case is so weak, it “could collapse before it gets to a trial.”

By the way, on the same day Bragg was indicting Trump, Stormy Daniels was ordered to pay another $122,000 in legal fees to Donald Trump for the ridiculous lawsuit she filed against him and lost.

And her former lawyer, Michael Avenatti — many Democrats wanted him to run for president — is serving a 14-year prison sentence.

Bragg’s Extreme Makeover

What makes this political persecution even more outrageous is the fact that Alvin Bragg had the audacity to claim in his press conference Tuesday, “We cannot and will not normalize serious criminal conduct.”

You’ve got to be kidding me! Normalizing serious criminal conduct is all Alvin Bragg has done!

He’s worked overtime to not prosecute serious crimes and to lower most felonies to misdemeanor charges. Yet, in this case, he’s doing the exact opposite — turning misdemeanors into felonies.

The extreme makeover Bragg is undergoing into a tough, throw-the-book-at-them prosecutor — just to “get Donald Trump” — would make even RuPaul jealous!

A Bad Night

Tuesday night’s election results were disappointing for commonsense conservatives. In Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election, the left-wing Soros-funded candidate prevailed by a wide margin.

Some people are saying that Trump is hurting us whenever he gets involved in campaigns. Well, he wasn’t involved in the Supreme Court race, and in 2016 he became the first Republican presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan to win Wisconsin.

In 2020, Trump barely lost Wisconsin by just 21,000 votes. Tuesday night, the conservative Supreme Court nominee lost the race by nearly ten times that number. If just 65% of Trump’s vote had turned out, the conservative would have won the Supreme Court race.

Trump carried Wisconsin once and narrowly lost it once. What that suggests to me is that he brings out a working-class vote the GOP usually doesn’t get.

There was also bad news out of Chicago. Now, I realize that Chicago isn’t about to elect a Republican. Tuesday’s mayoral run-off was between two Democrats. But there was a clear choice.

One candidate is a defund the police Marxist, more extreme than defeated Mayor Lori Lightfoot. He was supported by the teachers’ unions that are turning our children into little Marxists. The other candidate was moderately pro-business, supported school choice and was endorsed by the police unions. The extreme leftist won.

This is not your grandfather’s Democrat Party. This is not even your father’s Democrat Party. The Democrat Party of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton is gone.

It’s been replaced by a far-left, extremist movement that is willing to violate every norm, break every tradition, assault every cherished value and bend every law to achieve its goal of permanent political power.

And it’s betting that we are too nice and too confused to do what it takes to stop them. They may be right. We won’t have to wait much longer to determine the answer.

Chag Sameach — A Joyous Festival

Tonight, Jews all over the world will celebrate the miracle of Passover, commemorating the liberation of their people from ancient Egypt.

The Book of Exodus tells us that Moses was sent by God to tell Pharaoh to “Let my people go.” When Pharaoh refused, a series of plagues were inflicted on the Egyptian people. Through it all, Pharaoh’s heart hardened and he still refused to end the bondage of the Jews.

The final plague that God used to free the Jews from Pharaoh and Egyptian captivity was to kill all the firstborn males.

Forewarned by God, Jews marked their doors with the blood of a lamb, and, as a result, He passed over their homes. Pharaoh finally relented and released the Hebrew people. (Exodus, Chapter 12.) God told the Jewish people to mark the day as a memorial day and to observe it as a feast to the Lord forever.

God was with His people then as He liberated the Jews of Egypt and led them to the promised land of Israel. He is with them now.
