Throughout the 2016 campaign and his presidency, one of the most frequent attacks on Donald Trump was that his tweets were rash, he was rash and he would get us into a war. Well, that didn’t happen.

To the contrary, Trump negotiated historic peace accords in the Middle East. At the same time, he wasn’t afraid to defend our interests when necessary, for example, taking out Iran’s terrorist mastermind Qasem Soleimani.

So, I find it strange that Trump is now being attacked because he wants to end a war, specifically the war in Ukraine.

At Wednesday’s CNN town hall event, Trump was asked how he would handle the situation in Ukraine, and he consistently said that he wanted to negotiate an end to the war.

When asked which country he wanted to win, Trump said, “I want everybody to stop dying. They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying.” Trump also resisted labeling Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “war criminal” because doing so would make negotiations later impossible.

I haven’t formally endorsed anyone in the 2024 presidential race. We’re still a long way from the first votes being cast. But I can say that there are some people I don’t want anywhere near the White House. One of them is Chris Christie.

Responding to Trump’s desire to deescalate the situation and negotiate a peace deal, Christie attacked Trump as “a puppet of Putin.”

Christie and others, like Liz Cheney, evidently want U.S. leaders to be rash and irresponsible in the Balkan region, which is where World War I started. I hope the American people are paying attention.

Of course, most Americans don’t want Russia to conquer Ukraine. But most Americans don’t want to get bogged down in yet another war that lasts year after year.

Every day this war continues, more people suffer and more people die. And every day this war continues, the risks grow of a horrendous mistake that ignites a wider conflict or, worse, a nuclear conflict.

Texas Steps Up

Gov. Greg Abbott recently ordered members of the Texas National Guard and state troopers to start closing off parts of the border along the Rio Grande. While our Border Patrol agents have been ordered to accept and process anyone who surrenders to them, the Texas guards are refusing to let illegal aliens cross into our country.

As we noted last week, Biden’s open borders policies are resulting in record-breaking levels of illegal immigration. This is an emergency that jeopardizes our national security.

And what do you do in emergencies? You do things you wouldn’t normally do. If your house is on fire, you’ll break your windows to escape.

I respectfully urge Governor Abbott to do more. He needs to position every available law enforcement resource on the border now to stop this invasion!

Sure, “Open Borders” Biden and “Border Czar” Harris might say, “You’re not allowed to do that!” But Texas officials should say, “This is our state, and we’re standing firm.”

Is Joe Biden going to order Border Patrol agents to arrest Texas officers? If he did, what are the chances that fed up Border Patrol agents might refuse to follow orders?

Our enemies are watching as we are allowing thousands upon thousands of unidentifiable military aged-men to walk into our country. Thousands of people from communist China and Russia are crossing our southern border.

How do we know that some significant number aren’t terrorists or spies? We should assume this is at least a possibility because our enemies are not as stupid as the progressive left, which created this crisis!

These are extraordinary times. And elected officials must do extraordinary things to defend this extraordinary country.

Republicans Respond

Speaker Kevin McCarthy brought a strong border security bill to the House floor for a vote Thursday. It restarts construction of the border wall, strengthens laws against human trafficking, provides additional resources for the Border Patrol, reforms the much-abused asylum process and ends catch-and-release for illegal aliens.

Given that we are confronting an unprecedented crisis at our southern border, you might expect such legislation would have overwhelming bipartisan support. But you would be wrong. Every House Democrat voted against this border security bill.

Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to stop the mass release of illegal aliens after Title 42 expires.

Thursday night, a judge granted her request and blocked the Biden Administration from granting what it euphemistically calls “parole with conditions.” They were just going to let people go with barely any vetting and no date for a court hearing.

Judge T. Kent Wetherell blasted the Biden Administration for not only ignoring the crisis at the border, but for also implementing policies that “have encouraged the so-called ‘irregular migration.’”

The bottom line is that Judge Wetherell’s order can’t stop the border crisis. It only slows down the release of illegal aliens into the country.

The Truth Comes Out

As we have suffered through year after year of record-breaking illegal immigration, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has insisted over and over again that “The border is secure.” It’s obviously a total lie, but he keeps saying it.

Thursday, he said a couple of very revealing things when pressed about the deteriorating situation at the border.

When asked about the significant costs of illegal immigration, Mayorkas turned the question on its head and defended open borders. He said:

“Let me turn that question around… Since there are businesses around this country that are desperate for workers, there are … desperate workers in foreign countries that are looking for jobs in the United States, where they can earn money lawfully and send much-needed remittances back home. What is the cost of a broken immigration system?”

This is the typical elitist, corporatist, Washington Swamp response to the issue of illegal immigration. To the globalists, border security always takes a back seat to maintaining the flow of cheap labor.

Why is our government so interested in the well-being of foreign workers who want to send money out of the country? Why isn’t our government more concerned about the interests of American taxpayers?

Our immigration policies should put American workers and taxpayers first!

Not everyone can be a computer programmer or hedge fund manager. High levels of mass migration suppress the wages of American workers, especially low-skilled workers. Once upon a time, Democrats, like the legendary Barbara Jordan and even Bernie Sanders, understood this.

Mayorkas said something else that was especially noteworthy, and long overdue.

When left-wing media hack April Ryan attempted to claim that Haitian migrants were “whipped” by Border Patrol agents, Mayorkas surprisingly corrected her, saying, “The investigation concluded that the whipping did not occur.”

To my knowledge, that may be the first recognition from any top-level official in the Biden Administration that no one was “whipped” or “strapped” at the border.

They knew that at the time. But Democrats couldn’t resist smearing our brave Border Patrol agents and our country in order to promote their false narrative of “systemic racism.”

If America was an evil and racist country, millions of migrants of all races would not be trying to get in!

• Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed multiple bills into law that limit the influence of communist China in the Sunshine State. DeSantis also signed multiple educational reform bills into law.
• Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation to hold accountable “rogue or incompetent prosecutors who refuse to uphold the law.”
• Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed five pro-life bills into law. Gianforte also signed legislation banning foreign adversaries, including communist China, from buying farmland and other assets in the state.
• North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum signed legislation requiring students to use bathrooms that correspond to their biological gender, and ensuring that teachers are not required to lie about gender by being forced to use “preferred pronouns.”
• Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt vetoed state funding of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) due to programming that contributed to “the indoctrination and over-sexualization of our children.”
• Trail Life USA, a Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts, recently formed its 1,000th troop.
