Defy America, Pay No Price
If you're going to engage in a foreign policy capitulation, might as well do it when everyone is getting tanked and otherwise occupied. Say, New Year's Eve. Here's the story. In October, Iran test-fires a nuclear-capable ballistic missile in brazen violation of Security Council resolutions prohibiting such launches. President Obama does nothing. One month later, Iran does it again. The administration makes a few gestures at the U.N. Then nothing. Then finally, on Dec. 30, the White House announces a few sanctions.

The Sunni-Shiite divide is an old one, and explains new events.

North Korea's Nukes
The U.N. Security Council held an emergency, closed-door meeting [Wednesday] morning to discuss North Korea's claim that it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb. The underground detonation was some kind of nuclear device, but intelligence analysts are skeptical, for the moment at least, that it was in fact a hydrogen bomb. If it was a hydrogen bomb, the national security threats to our allies and us would grow significantly.

Recruiting Jihadists
The radical Islamic terror group al-Shabaab released a recruitment video over the weekend. It features Malcolm X, stokes racial tensions and urges black Muslim Americans to rise up against our country. It sounds like it could have been written by Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam leader once honored by Obama's Chicago church. But what the media focused on was footage of Donald Trump calling for a temporary ban on Muslim immigration to America until we can sort out the peaceful Muslims from those who hate us.

Obama Appeases the Ayatollah, Again
During negotiations over the Iranian nuclear deal, the Obama administration did whatever was necessary to appease the ayatollah's demands. Many on the left hoped that by negotiating with Iran, the regime might moderate its anti-Western attitudes, curb its belligerence and open up to world trade.

Legacy or Bust
Last Saturday, Barack Obama gained the second jewel in his foreign policy triple crown: the Paris climate accord. It follows his Iran nuclear deal and awaits but the closing of Guantanamo to complete his glittering legacy. To be sure, Obama will not be submitting the climate agreement for Senate ratification. It would have no chance of passing — as with the Iranian nuclear deal, also never submitted for the Senate ratification Obama knew he'd never get. And if he does close Guantánamo, it will be in defiance of overwhelming bipartisan congressional opposition.

Trump Ups the Ante
Billionaire Donald Trump certainly knows how to draw attention. [Monday], in a prepared statement and in follow-up interviews, he called for a moratorium on all Muslim immigration to the United States. He was immediately condemned not only by big media and the political left, but also by many Republicans.
