The Wildlife Refuge Putsch
The Malheur National Wildlife Refuge hasn't heretofore been known as a locus of government tyranny or much of anything else. Saying that the refuge, established in 1908 by Theodore Roosevelt, is in the middle of nowhere makes it sound too centrally located. It is in Southeastern Oregon, about 30 miles from the nearest town of Burns, population 2,722. Now the Bundy family — notorious for its standoff with the feds at the family's Nevada ranch last year — and sundry anti-government protesters have occupied the refuge and pronounced it the staging ground for an offensive against an oppressive federal government.

Regarding last week's mass murder in Oregon, what is there to say that is new? There was a day in America when such an atrocity was almost unheard of. There were family feuds, mafia murders, and I guess what were called juvenile delinquent murders, though they were comparatively rare and for the most part ignored.

Life or death was determined by the answer to a single question: Are you a Christian? That was the question asked by an anti-Christian gunman who stormed into a classroom at Oregon's Umpqua Community College. Eyewitnesses say the shooter targeted Christians. Kortney Moore was inside the classroom. She told the Roseburg News-Review that the shooter ordered students to get on the ground — and then told them to stand up and state their religion.
Another Radical Left Hate Crime?
[Thursday], 26 year-old Chris Harper Mercer walked onto the campus of Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, and murdered nine people. Seven more individuals were injured during his shooting rampage. Our prayers go out to the victims and their families.
