We live in a culture that has become so determined to be benevolent to everyone that we have forsaken those who actually need it and replaced them with those we need to push away.
Take the advent of small-boat migration, for example. On the surface, these people have left places of turmoil and are striving for a better life. That may be true for some people. Asylum can be good when done correctly, and it can be necessary to make the best out of a bad situation.
Many times, however, we have seen refugees carry that turmoil with them. Recently, there was a report that on one such small migrant boat traveling from Africa to the Canary Islands, three men gang-raped a young woman, and on that same boat a two-year-old baby was thrown off the side to drown. Spanish police arrested the rapists but then released them soon afterward because the crime took place in “international waters.” As far as we know, everyone on that boat is being processed as refugees, like nothing even happened.
If international law is so up in the air that violent felonies such as rape and murder are practically legal, I’m not sure it can even count as law.
It’s decisions like releasing three felons on a technicality that turn once-great Western nations into desolate trash heaps. Western society has been wildly successful over the last millennium. As a whole, it obviously hasn’t been perfect, but the West has dominated the world for hundreds of years. It has perpetually evolved around many similar shared cultures and values. These cultures have led the way in exploration, innovation, and philosophy. People from other places or backgrounds naturally won’t be as inclined to adopt the values that have made Western civilization great.
However, when you allow thousands of refugees or immigrants in with no control over their potential effects on society at large, you risk losing the identity that once made you great.
When you look at the general population of the world’s refugees, the majority of them tend to be Muslim adult men. They aren’t moving to other Muslim nations, not because the other Muslim nations don’t accept refugees, but because it is a fundamental part of their religion to spread their worldview and ideology to all corners of the world. While that alone is not necessarily bad, when said worldview calls for the combining of church and state, restrictions of individual freedoms, and the subjugation of women, it becomes fundamentally incompatible with any Western government.
On top of that, many in the Islamic religion are influenced by it to such a degree that they abandon basic morals. The entire reason terrorism has become such a problem in the past 30 years is due to radical Islamist teaching. Furthermore, even in the confines of Western Europe, the rate of rape and sexual assaults has skyrocketed, simply because Muslims, for some twisted reason, think that is acceptable.
Even Americans at home are finding out what Muslims truly believe. Nate Friedman, an American commentator, was just told by an elderly Muslim man that he should be killed for not believing in Allah.
The values that most refugees adhere to are fundamentally against what has made North America and Western Europe successful. It is okay to be generous by accepting refugees and immigrants, but letting them refuse to adopt your values and run wild, committing whatever atrocity comes to mind that day, is simply poor decision-making.
