Only one side in the Israel-Hamas conflict aims for genocide, and it’s not Israel. Yet on yesterday’s third anniversary of Hamas’s horrific and unprovoked slaughter of 1,200 Israelis, some folks are still lying about it and even celebrating it.

“From the River to the Sea” is Hamas’s genocidal chant declaring the Islamists’ goal of removing (i.e., killing) all Jews and making Israel into a single Palestinian state with no Jews. As Ben Shapiro notes, “Palestinians have refused, over and over and over again, a so-called ‘two-state solution,’ because they don’t want a two-state solution. They want Israel destroyed.”

American Democrats lie about that goal, too.

Why? Because they subscribe to the Marxist lie that Israel is the “oppressor” and the Palestinians are the “oppressed.” Therefore, they conclude that when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, it wasn’t unprovoked; it was a blow for “freedom” and “justice” against “apartheid” and “tyranny.”

For an example of this noxious ideology, look no further than yesterday’s social media post by Zohran Mamdani, mayor of New York City, which is home to more Jews than anywhere in America. (Sidebar: Raise your hand if you knew electing a Muslim socialist was a bad idea. Pick me.)

After a perfunctory nod to the suffering of Israelis brought about by the Hamas assault — in the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust — Mamdani moved on to dwell on his real grievance:

The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians — including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them — all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes.

For the record, nearly everything in that paragraph is a lie.

Mamdani begins by implying that October 7 was Israel’s fault, and it gets worse from there. He didn’t mention that Hamas fighters build bases and hide themselves in schools, mosques, and hospitals precisely so that any attack against them will bring civilian casualties, despite Israel’s herculean efforts to avoid the deaths of innocents. I should put “civilian” in quote marks, too, given the aid and support the entire population of Gaza gives to the fighters. Hamas jihadis control food shipments, as well, firing on Israeli soldiers whenever they have the chance and starving the children. No casualty numbers coming from Hamas should ever be trusted, and the vast majority of real casualties have been armed fighters.

Mamdani is hardly alone. Hot Air’s David Strom notes, “Mamdani’s fellow New York Democratic Socialist, Darializa Avila Chevalier, [who] will soon represent New York in Congress from New York City after defeating an incumbent Democrat in the primary, took to the streets on October 8 to celebrate the massacres.” Anti-Israel protesters hit the streets worldwide yesterday.

Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, is also a raging antisemite. As just one example, The Washington Free Beacon reports that she “created art for a virulently anti-Israel olive oil company that celebrates Palestinian violence, trades in antisemitic imagery, and sells expensive bottles that celebrate an OG Palestinian terrorist who shot down a British plane.” She has many more such résumé items.

Down the road at Columbia University, students staged a walkout on Wednesday while chanting, “Resistance is justified when people are occupied.” Fact-check: Hamas ruled Gaza, so if anyone was doing the occupying...

As outrageous as it is, the Hamas terrorists succeeded not only in killing Jews and taking even infants hostage for torture and death but in rallying the world’s idiotic Marxists to their cause — in part by filming themselves committing demonic atrocities. Words can hardly express just how awful that is.

So let’s take stock of the real point of yesterday’s memorials.

Israelis paused to gather in silence early Wednesday morning to mark the time of the slaughter. But Israel isn’t done fighting for justice.

“We brought home all of our hostages who were held in the tunnels of Gaza, but this is not the end of the story: We are hunting without letup the human-beasts who attacked us with shocking cruelty, and those who held the hostages with shocking cruelty,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday. “We are eliminating them one by one — they are not worthy of walking upon the face of the earth. We will eradicate Hamas’s regime of blood. We will destroy it.”

That’s not genocide; it’s just war.

It also means taking the fight to Iran, which trained and funded Hamas. Iran must not gain nuclear weapons. And it means constant vigilance against jihadis like the pilot who recently hijacked a commercial airliner in order to crash it into Ben Gurion International Airport near Jerusalem.

Jew-hatred is the world’s oldest hatred. Someday, we hope to defeat it — especially in America’s largest city.
