They were warned! Time after time, the prophets apprised Israel (the 10 northern tribes) that God would bring judgment if they did not repent. They had turned to the idols of the nations around them instead of the one true God, so He sent an Assyrian invasion to wake them up to his proclamations.

After the invasion, when Assyria withdrew, the Israelites convinced themselves that they had dodged a bullet. Yes, the Assyrians had ravaged the land, but it wasn’t too bad, they thought. In fact, they decided to undertake a big infrastructure project.

“The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars” (Isaiah 9:10).

They rejected that the Lord was trying to get their attention, to get them to turn back to Him for protection. Instead, they pretty much said, We’ll build back better. (Why does that sound familiar?) The straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak, came when Israel began sacrificing their children to Molech. Within a few years, Assyria returned, destroying the cities and taking the survivors to other nations.

Then the prophets began warning Judah that they’d better shape up lest they also suffer God’s judgment. Please understand that God didn’t want to punish them; He wanted to protect them. Yet time after time, they rejected his mercies and his warnings.

The last straw for Judah came when they too began sacrificing their children to Molech. God used the pagan nation of Babylon as His instrument of judgment. For 70 years, as Jeremiah had prophesied, they were in Babylon.

After seven decades, the Lord kept His promise to Judah. Jehovah prompted the Persian King Cyrus to send the captives back, telling them to rebuild their temple and to pray for the king and his sons. God also brought judgment upon Babylon for how it had abused his children. That was about 2,600 years ago.

Today we claim we have “evolved” — except that while we don’t sacrifice children to Molech, we have murdered over 60 million babies before they took their first breath, calling it abortion or “women’s health.” It’s a “right” somehow inferred in the Constitution, yet I haven’t found it.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey recently signed legislation allowing abortion right up to birth as the entire group around her erupted into cheers and applause. We’re not making the God of the universe very happy right now, but He hasn’t said anything to us, has He? We’re doing okay, aren’t we?

Let’s look back to September 11, 2001. For the first time, we were attacked by radical Muslims on our own shores. Nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered by an ideology that hates everything we stand for. That sounds like a wake-up call to me. God’s hedge of protection was lifted and America suffered because of it.

Think about what else has happened since 9/11. Instead of humbling ourselves and repenting, Democrat national leaders have invoked Isaiah 9:10, saying we will rebuild and come back better than ever. Since then, homosexual marriage has also become the law of the land. Pornography is still a plague, and we are one of the worst nations on earth for sex trafficking. But God’s not upset with us… is He?

Don’t give up hope, though. I’m seeing a swing in the attitude of millions of people across the nation. There are more prayer groups comprising Gen Zers and even Millennials, who are finding true peace in Jesus Christ, not in the world. Charlie Kirk’s assassination has thrown gasoline on the fire for the search for true Peace.

Now it’s our turn to pray for the next great move of God in our nation. It can happen. Don’t quit!

Something to pray about!
