Abdul El-Sayed aims to become the first Muslim to win a U.S. Senate seat. At least based on connections, the Michigan Democrat could arguably be the first Muslim Brotherhood senator.

The debate has been at a roiling boil since Republican candidate Mike Rogers brought it up in last week’s debate. El-Sayed “has taken money from groups associated in support [of] the Muslim Brotherhood,” Rogers asserted. “He has taken money from individuals on his campaign who openly support Hamas, Hezbollah, al-Qaida.” The Muslim Brotherhood is an international terror network that briefly ruled Egypt, where El-Sayed’s mother and father were born.

Over the weekend, NBC’s Kristen Welker attempted to circle the wagons:

KW: “Can you set the record straight about whether you or your family have any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood?”

AES: “No, but let’s talk about this.”

KW: “No, you don’t have any ties?”

AES: “No.”

KW: “And your family doesn’t?”

AES: “No.”

The Washington Free Beacon soon turned up evidence from El-Sayed’s half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi, an assistant professor at the University of Chicago:

“My family has long been MB,” Abdelhadi wrote on June 24, 2012, days after Egypt elected Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi as president. “I have had family jailed for being a part of it,” she wrote on July 3, 2013. “Praying for all my family that supports the #MB in Egypt. Lie low, stay safe,” she said.

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but credit to NBC for following up after the Beacon’s report, asking El-Sayed directly if he had further comment.

Naturally, El Sayed denied the story, angrily dismissing it as “hearsay evidence from a tweet.”

“Hearsay” from his sister.

What about more evidence?

According to Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey:

Well, let us review the record. His father-in-law, Tayeb Jukaku, serves on the boards of both CAIR and ISNA, both of which have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, and both of which were unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation money-laundering prosecution for a conspiracy to fund Hamas. Jukaku also sent hundreds of thousands of dollars to the super PAC supporting El-Sayed’s candidacy. Does anyone wonder where that money originated?

The Muslim Brotherhood and affiliates connect to El-Sayed personally and to his Senate campaign. According to Fox News, “El-Sayed’s campaign has collected more than $115,000 from individuals who work for or have held leadership roles with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has been designated a terrorist organization by the United Arab Emirates and formally designated or labeled as such in Florida and Texas.”

CAIR swears that it condemns terrorism, but the way Islamofascism typically works is that a few radicals do the dirty work while supporters wear the Religion of Peace™ keffiyeh and give a wink and nod to the complicit Leftmedia.

Speaking of winking, when El-Sayed was asked earlier this year to comment on the U.S. strike that killed Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, he answered, “I just don’t want to comment” because “there are a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad today.”

That’s not exactly America First.

As for more evidence of El-Sayed’s positions and influences, the editors of National Review add:

Even if we discount all of this as simply unfortunate family relations, El-Sayed has similar political associations. From the radical activist Linda Sarsour to the noxious streamer Hasan Piker to allies of the antisemitic Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, El-Sayed has cultivated relationships with agitators whose hatred of Israel and its allies is matched only by their affinity for Islamist street action.

“We want to keep our country away from this guy,” President Donald Trump argued. “His name is Abdul, but I call him Mohammed Abdul el Sayed, and he’s a Muslim Brotherhood guy, 100%, 100%, he’s a Muslim Brotherhood guy.” He added, “He hates our country, so I hope that he is defeated. I can’t imagine he won.”

Why does any of this matter? Well, Michigan is home to Dearbornistan, for one thing. For another, the red-green alliance between communists and Islamists is a grave threat to America. In many respects, El-Sayed is a run-of-the-mill, gun-grabbing, Medicare-for-All socialist. That’s bad enough without the Islamofascist connections.

It’s not just that El-Sayed’s half-sister once tweeted support for some distant group. It’s that the Muslim Brotherhood is a dangerous and radical Islamic organization, and Islamists hate America and all it stands for. Whether El-Sayed is literally a member is almost irrelevant if he has spent his entire life marinating in that toxic ideology.

Specifically, if El-Sayed wins that Senate seat and secures a spot on certain committees — like the Senate Foreign Relations Committee — it could pose a serious problem. Senator Ted Cruz calls it “an unprecedented national security risk.” In fact, Cruz added, “I believe if Abdul El-Sayed has access to that classified material, that it will endanger the lives of service men and women.”

Now consider the recent ominous words of Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “If Abdul can win in Michigan, anybody can win anywhere. Anywhere.”

Yikes.
