It’s another election season, and Democrats are at it again.

Unable to sell their policies on merit alone, they’re resorting to scare tactics and lies. It’s all in their playbook. Back in 2011, there was a television ad produced by a progressive organization showing a man pushing a senior citizen in a wheelchair off a cliff to make people think Republican policies would kill people. The “Granny Off a Cliff” ad became a famous piece of political propaganda. And it worked.

Today, the same strategy is being employed to scare voters into supporting something they’ll later regret.

According to to FactCheck.org, “Democratic ads in multiple congressional races are accusing Republican candidates of ‘gutting Medicare,’ voting for ‘huge cuts to Medicare’ and ‘cheering on Trump’s attack on Medicare.’ Several ads cite President Donald Trump’s major domestic policy law, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. But the law’s changes to Medicare are narrow in scope and affect relatively few beneficiaries.” Furthermore, the ads “misleadingly frame the OBBBA or Republican policies as a major assault on Medicare.”

While Democrats lie about what Republicans are doing, they’re also covering up what they’re planning to do if they control Congress. It’s the same approach they took when they sold the lie that ObamaCare would provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient healthcare.

As David Harsanyi explains at the Washington Examiner, “You will recall that Barack Obama’s most infamous lie was to claim that the Affordable Health Care Act [sic] wouldn’t force anyone to surrender existing insurance plans. ‘If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it,’ wasn’t a throwaway line. It existed to diffuse one of the leading concerns of voters. Obama used the phrase at least 37 times — and Democrats made the claims hundreds of more times. The president later risibly lamented that he may have misled people, but his legislation would have stalled without the lie.”

It didn’t take long for millions of Americans to lose their healthcare plans, which was all part of the design. There was never any intention to allow other plans to compete with ObamaCare. Instead, the objective was to put those other plans out to pasture and force everyone into a single-payer system. The Obama administration knew this all along.

Looking into the actual numbers, financial professional Jay Rogers opines at The Hill that “President Barack Obama said his plan would cut a typical family’s premium ‘by up to $2,500 a year.’ PolitiFact has since rated it ‘Promise Broken.’” Rogers continues, “Premiums rose so far that Congress had to tack on ‘enhanced’ subsidies to them during COVID — one subsidy added on top of the original subsidy, just to make premiums slightly less intolerable. When those credits expired at the end of 2025, the average monthly net premium jumped by 58 percent, and the average deductible hit a record $3,786. Sixteen years in, the Affordable Care Act still can’t live up to its own name.”

Democrats still claim that Americans who currently like their health plans can keep them. In reality, most workers with employee-sponsored health plans would see those plans eliminated. How do we know this? The Medicare for All Act of 2025 makes it very clear that it’s illegal for private insurers to sell health plans that compete with the government program.

The Congressional Budget Office’s own projections show that “federal subsidies for health care in 2030 would increase by amounts ranging from $1.5 trillion to $3.0 trillion under the illustrative single-payer options — compared with federal subsidies in 2030 projected under current law — raising the share of spending on health care financed by the federal government.”

Back in 2019, a Heritage Foundation report revealed the devil in the details. They found that nearly 75% of Americans would be worse off financially under a single-payer health system; workers would pay more than 20% higher payroll taxes; and households with employer-sponsored health plans would lose thousands of dollars each year in disposable income.

Yet despite these alarming numbers, they tell only part of the story. Any massive bureaucratic program is bound to be fraught with waste and abuse. ObamaCare is one of them.

As Charlie McCarthy writes at Newsmax:

The Trump administration has eliminated Obamacare subsidies for 189,000 duplicate or deceased enrollees, a crackdown on improper government healthcare payments projected to save taxpayers approximately $1.5 billion over the next year, federal officials announced Wednesday.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said the action follows the discovery of people receiving taxpayer-subsidized Affordable Care Act coverage despite already having Medicare, Medicaid, or Children’s Health Insurance Program coverage, as well as individuals listed as deceased. The latest findings are part of President Donald Trump’s broader effort to combat fraud, waste, and abuse in federal health care programs after the Biden administration suspended routine eligibility checks for four years.

In the final analysis, the promise of Medicare for All functions as a seductive political mirage designed to obscure reality. While Democrats paint an idealistic picture of free care with zero out-of-pocket costs, they routinely minimize the massive tax hikes and federal spending required to keep it afloat. Transitioning to a single-payer model would dismantle the private insurance plans that over a hundred million Americans currently rely on and choose to keep.

Replacing a competitive marketplace with a massive, centralized government bureaucracy will also degrade healthcare quality, lengthen wait times, and suffocate medical innovation. Americans should look past the rhetoric in these Democrat propaganda pieces and recognize that Medicare for All will result in profound financial consequences and leave Americans without the quality healthcare they deserve.
