The Trump administration’s greatest impact on the country has been cracking down on crime and securing the border. Violent crime nosedived. The national homicide rate went down 18% from 2024 to 2025. President Donald Trump closed the southern border. His administration succeeded in deporting illegal immigrants, which further contributed to the sharp decline in crime rates.

However, to absolutely no one’s surprise, that’s not how the Leftmedia portrays it. Instead of highlighting the good, they cherry-pick the most emotional stories they can find to undermine Trump’s work.

On Sunday, CBS ran a “60 Minutes” episode featuring Moussa Diawara, an illegal migrant living in Texas. He entered the U.S. over two decades ago, and ICE finally arrested him in July. Diawara also claimed that he was gay on his documents in 2012. Keep that in mind.

ICE deported Diawara, and at the time of the CBS interview, he was in Ghana, which has agreed to temporarily house migrants deported from America until they can return to their home countries.

Diawara made it abundantly clear he didn’t want to be shipped home to Mali for two reasons. He still claims to be gay and says he converted to Christianity, two identifiers that could put him at risk in Muslim-majority Mali. In October 2024, Mali criminalized same-sex sexual activity, and the country ranks 15th globally on the Open Doors World Watch List for 2026.

His narrative has a few issues, first and foremost that he isn’t actually gay. He and his wife have two children.

And Diawara may have claimed Christianity just to garner sympathy over the persecution Christians face in Mali. At best, he’s an opportunist, and at worst, a fraud.

Yet “60 Minutes” still gave this story airtime and presented everything this man said as true. If I wanted a CBS show where people told fake, cringey sob stories, I’d watch “Big Brother.”

However, I’ll give the show credit for interviewing DHS General Counsel James Percival, who represents the law enforcement perspective. CBS cut much of his interview for obvious reasons, but DHS posted the full interview here.

The interviewer, Gianna Toboni, clearly tried to steer the conversation toward justifying holding migrants deemed “innocent.” Toboni first attempted to corner Percival by presenting “evidence” that Diawara was sent against his will to a place where he would be persecuted or tortured. Percival accurately pointed out that, under our agreements with third countries, it wouldn’t be the case. He stated that despite Toboni’s claims, there is no evidence of persecution or torture from Ghanaian migrant placements.

Toboni then attempted to paint the vast majority of illegal migrants as innocent, citing the “fact” that a small percentage of illegal migrants face violent crime charges. Percival counters well again, asking why the government should only deport violent criminals, when many criminals commit nonviolent crimes too. ICE can legally deport illegals even if they haven’t been convicted of a violent crime. Percival closes by saying that everyone has to follow the law. People on American soil illegally are breaking the law and must be dealt with accordingly.

I’m tired of the Leftmedia’s narrative concerning the illegal migrants still lurking within our borders. They attempt to portray them as innocent, quasi-Americans just minding their own business before ICE ruined their lives. But in any orderly society, people who break the law must meet the prescribed punishment for the greater good. That’s what the current administration seeks to restore. The Left’s narrative of the “innocent migrant” undermines what America needs, and we should reject it.
