Insanity on Bordering
Daily, monthly, and annual records are the predictable and intended results of Joe Biden’s insane policies.
Joe Biden has allowed an intentional invasion of the U.S. southern border with his awful and impeachment-worthy immigration policies. The flood of illegal aliens across the border was the worst story of 2023. It’s little surprise that 2024 begins with more bad news on that front.
There is some good news, though. Texas recently enacted a law that makes crossing the border illegally a state crime, thus allowing state authorities to enforce that law. The state has already arrested thousands using a similar program.
But that too comes with bad news. Biden’s “Justice” Department has threatened to sue the Lone Star State for maintaining its border because doing so is the federal government’s job.
Let’s put that another way. After the Biden administration has refused to do the job, the Justice Department is threatening to sue a state for enforcing a state law that matches federal law. Totally undermining the Rule of Law is the official policy of the Biden administration.
A CBS News story from Christmas Eve bears the almost hilarious headline, “Migrants cross U.S. border in record numbers, undeterred by Texas’ razor wire and Biden’s policies.”
Undeterred by Biden’s policies? Who are they kidding?
Every action Team Biden has taken over the last three years has sent a loud and clear message to all comers: “All those people seeking asylum” ought to “surge to the border.” Those are literally the words Candidate Biden used in 2019, and it’s the obvious message of his administration’s every move since January 2021.
That’s why December 18 set a daily record of more than 14,000 illegal crossings, and December possibly set a new all-time monthly record for crossings at an estimated 300,000. It’s why 2023 likely set a record, too — the U.S. Border Patrol recorded 2.5 million encounters in fiscal 2023, and the calendar year was probably higher still. That’s part of roughly six million apprehensions (most of which were caught and released) since Biden took office.
As the sleuths at CBS put it in another article, “The extraordinary number of migrant arrivals this month is the most dire juncture yet of a three-year-long crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border that has strained resources in small and large U.S. communities, left countless of migrants in limbo, prompted lawmakers to consider drastically limiting asylum and created a major political vulnerability for President Biden as he seeks reelection.”
Hmm, we wonder why the border crisis would create a “major political vulnerability” for Biden.
Not to worry. The New York Post reports, “Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas met Wednesday with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to talk stemming from the record-breaking surge of illegal immigration along the US-Mexico border.”
After talking for three hours, the Mexican president only intimated that “important agreements were reached.” He’s a hardcore socialist in cahoots with the drug cartels, so we can only imagine what those agreements might be.
Indeed, the U.S. delegation put out a joint statement about how they had “discussed the benefits of regularizing the situation of Hispanic migrants who have been undocumented for several years.” Making illegals legal is amnesty, and it’s more or less the aim of the Left.
Going into 2024, it’s highly likely that Donald Trump will be the Republican presidential nominee. The polls show him beating Biden handily, but Biden may very well not be the Democrat candidate. By 2020, Trump had put together a four-year record of enforcing border laws, to go along with tax cuts for everyone and an economy quickly recovering its steam after the pandemic hiatus. Yet voters decided that they hated his mean tweets more than they appreciated his policies. What will they say after what will be nearly four years of Biden’s disastrous blundering and catastrophic border policies?
