Biden Picks Winners and Losers
The policy agenda is not America First but rather Washington First.
“We are the United States of America. And there is nothing, nothing beyond our capacity when we act together,” said Joe Biden as he concluded his Democrat pep rally … er, State of the Union address.
That was about the only statement Biden made all night that was not blatantly partisan and anti-Republican. After verbally slapping his political opponents upside the head for nearly an hour, he suddenly spun and called for unity.
As the Wall Street Journal editorial board observed: “This was a campaign rally disguised as a State of the Union, as Democrats chanted ‘four more years.’ … The Joe Biden in the well of the House on Thursday promised four more years of dispiriting rancor.”
For “President Unity,” it was all about him boasting that his agenda was one that would “save democracy” while he gaslighted the American public on the successes of his first term and the threat posed by Republicans to the nation as a whole. Biden’s enemies list was lengthy:
Republicans, of course.
Big Pharma, which he blasted over the cost of drugs like insulin while blaming Republicans for not supporting the Democrats’ cost-control legislation. Never mind the fact that he touted Big Pharma’s COVID vaccine or that he wildly over-promised on its benefits.
Trump-era tax cuts, which Biden falsely derided for giving a $2 trillion tax break to the top 1%, while he falsely claimed to have cut the federal deficit by $1 trillion. He promised to pick the losers in tax policy — anyone earning over $400,000 a year.
Election integrity laws, which Biden ridiculously equates to Jim Crow-era voter suppression laws, as he called for the passage of the Democrats’ misleadingly named Freedom to Vote Act.
Parental rights over their children’s education, which Biden euphemistically refers to as book banning and history erasure.
Big Oil, which Biden also blasted for supposedly enjoying tax breaks. Meanwhile, how many billions of taxpayer dollars have gone to supplement Biden’s Green New Deal and assorted boondoggles? It’s an agenda he once again justified as he touted his “confronting the climate crisis, not denying it.” Biden also derisively suggested: “I don’t think any of you think there’s no longer a climate crisis. At least, I hope you don’t.”
And what of the border crisis his administration created and then repeatedly denied until it became too politically inconvenient to do so? Well, that’s the Republicans’ fault, too. Biden further blasted Republicans for failing to pass a bad immigration bill, claiming it was needed so he could hire and send 1,500 more security agents to the border.
Biden’s list of “winning” agenda items included canceling student loan debt, calling for the passage of the speech- and religious liberty-infringing Equality Act, and pushing the PRO Act, which is a boon for big business and unions but hurts small businesses and the self-employed.
In short, Biden’s agenda equates to ensuring that Washington elites gain more power and control to limit Americans’ rights and liberties. Thus, the Biden agenda remains not an America First policy but a Washington First one.
