It’s been three years since the issue of abortion was turned back over to the states to decide, thanks to Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Unfortunately, there has been a large increase in abortions, which seems to be a reaction to that reconfiguration.

“Abortion volume is higher in 2024 than it was in 2023 or 2022,” reports the abortion counting group #WeCount. Some 1.14 million abortions occurred in the United States last year. That’s 1.14 million people who will never get a chance to be who they were made to be; 1.14 million babies whose lives were deemed worthless and inconvenient. Now, 1.14 million mothers must learn to live with the guilt of that choice.

As predicted, the rise in abortions has coincided with two nefarious adaptations on the Left. First, the rise in the use of telehealth/telemedicine has made going to an abortion clinic nearly obsolete. Women seeking an abortion just need to call a provider in a state that has looser abortion laws, and they are prescribed mifepristone and misoprostol to end the life of their child.

According to #WeCount, nearly one out of every four abortions is the result of an abortion pill obtained via telehealth. The numbers show an exponential rise in telehealth abortions between 2023 and 2024, particularly in states with pro-life laws. This rise in abortion via phone coincides with the sticky situation in which Planned Parenthood has found itself. The abortion mill giant has been using its money to fight legal battles and fund political lobbies, and its “quality of care” has consequently suffered. Planned Parenthood is also in the precarious position of losing government money in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Should OBBBA pass Congress, Planned Parenthood will no longer get Medicaid reimbursements from the government. Since 96.7% of its pregnancy care is abortions, that’s a substantial cash cow it is potentially losing.

Some physicians are also using telehealth abortions in pro-abortion states. They are then able to avoid prosecution because of shield laws.

It is a disheartening state of affairs for those of us who care about the lives of these babies and their mothers and fathers. In spite of these sad statistics, pro-life states and pro-life activists are continuing the fight. According to National Review’s Michael J. New, “Three separate studies analyzing Texas birth data have found that the Texas Heartbeat Act has saved over 1,000 lives every month. Two other studies analyzing birth data from other states with strong pro-life laws have found these laws have saved tens of thousands of lives.”

The fight for the rights of the preborn is far from over. The pro-life movement just has a different battlefield on which to fight.
