Thursday: Below the Fold

Biden doc pleads the Fifth, Secret Service suspensions, anti-Trump FISA warrants to be reviewed, Dem senator wants to unmask ICE, Harvard accreditation at risk, and more.

  • Biden doc pleads the Fifth: Dr. Kevin O'Connor, who served as Joe Biden’s personal physician, sat before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday after being subpoenaed by Republican lawmakers as part of their investigation into the state of Biden’s cognitive condition while president. However, throughout the closed-door interview, O'Connor repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, refusing to answer numerous questions. O'Connor, who had repeatedly given Biden a clean bill of health while he was in office, refused to answer when he was asked if he had been instructed to lie about Biden’s fitness. In late February of 2024, just four months before Biden’s disastrous debate with Donald Trump, O'Connor reported that Biden “continues to be fit for duty and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations.” O'Connor’s report came three weeks after Special Counsel Robert Hur determined that Biden was too forgetful to prosecute for mishandling classified documents.

  • Secret Service suspensions: July 13, 2024, will be remembered for the attempt a deranged madman made to assassinate Donald Trump. Almost a year later, reports have emerged that six Secret Service agents were suspended without pay due to failures at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The penalties ranged from 10 to 42 days of unpaid leave, with Secret Service Deputy Director Matt Quinn explaining that the Service could not “fire its way out of this” problem. After the suspensions were lifted, the agents were assigned to restricted roles with reduced responsibility. The second attempted assassination that occurred in September of 2024 has had repercussions as well, with Tina Brown Cooper and Ronnie Jay Oxendine pleading guilty to charges after they conspired to sell a rifle to the would-be assassin despite his 2002 weapons conviction.

  • Anti-Trump FISA warrants to be reviewed: The warrants used to obtain information on Trump ally Carter Page in 2016 are coming under review. FBI Director Kash Patel is working to uncover, declassify, and publicize the true story of the Russiagate conspiracy orchestrated by Trump haters. The latest effort involved asking the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court for a review of the information it used to justify the warrant for Page. The FBI and DOJ are seeking to disseminate the information internally in order to perform necessary redactions before turning it over to Congress. This comes in concert with the criminal referral of former CIA Director John Brennan.

  • Dem senator wants to unmask ICE: California Democrat Sen. Alex Padilla, who made headlines a month ago when he sought to interrupt DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s Los Angeles press conference to voice his objection to ICE’s enforcement actions, has introduced a bill calling for the unmasking of ICE officers. Padilla, who was joined by fellow New Jersey Democrat Sen. Cory Booker, wants to ban federal immigration officers from wearing face masks and require them to wear visible IDs during public operations. Dubbed the Visible Identification Standards for Immigration-Based Law Enforcement (VISIBLE) Act, Padilla called his legislation “commonsense.” The truth is that this bill would amount to doxxing ICE officers and serve only to further endanger them in their already dangerous line of work. Padilla knows this, as his anti-ICE stance makes quite clear.

  • Big Beautiful Bill codifies Trump’s executive orders: President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act is now the law of the land, but its size means it’s hard to publicize everything included in it. It’s worth making the effort in this case. The OBBBA codified 28 of Trump’s executive orders, an essential step in ensuring they become law and aren’t overturned as soon as another president takes office. Some of the orders codified are “Declaring a National Emergency at the Southern Border,” “Protecting the American People Against Invasion,” “Iron Dome for America” (Trump’s “Golden Dome” project), “Restoring America’s Maritime Dominance,” and “Unleashing American Energy.”

  • Duffy to NASA and new FAA chief confirmed: On Wednesday, President Trump announced that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will be taking over as interim head of NASA. Trump posted on Truth Social that Duffy “will be a fantastic leader of the ever more important Space Agency, even if only for a short period of time.” The move comes a little over a month after Trump pulled his nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA. At the time, Trump asserted that he did so because Isaacman was “a blue blooded Democrat, who had never contributed to a Republican before” — claims that Isaacman disputed. Trump’s decision likely had more to do with Isaacman’s connection to Elon Musk and SpaceX. Meanwhile, the Senate yesterday confirmed Bryan Bedford, Trump’s nominee to head the Federal Aviation Administration, in a party-line vote.

  • Harvard accreditation at risk: The Trump administration recognizes that the university system in America is not functioning properly. For that reason, universities like Harvard, UPenn, Columbia, and others have come under continual criticism from the federal government for their failures. On Wednesday, the New England Commission of Higher Education was put on notice that Harvard is at risk of losing its accreditation. In Harvard’s case, the issue is its violation of nondiscrimination policies, specifically regarding rampant anti-Semitism on campus. Earlier this year, Trump issued an executive order that made it easier for a university to change its accreditor and for the government to recognize new accreditors. Hopefully, this will increase competition, which generally improves product quality — and universities certainly need that.

  • California sued: Following the California Education Department’s rejection of the Trump administration’s directive to adhere to federal Title IX guidelines that ban biological males from competing in girls’ sports, the U.S. Department of Education has filed a civil lawsuit against the Golden State. The lawsuit seeks an injunction against California’s radical anti-female sports policy — a policy that even Gov. Gavin Newsom admitted was “deeply unfair” even as he has refused to move against it. California has now become the second Democrat-run state against which the Trump administration has raised a lawsuit for refusing to adhere to Title IX protections of girls’ and women’s sports, the other state being Maine, whose case is currently in the courts.

  • Gender mutilators subpoenaed: On Monday, the Department of Justice issued subpoenas to more than 20 doctors and clinics for healthcare fraud. Attorney General Pam Bondi explained in a statement that doctors or hospitals “that mutilated children in the service of a warped ideology will be held accountable.” This administration is making it clear that gender “transition” procedures for minors will end. The FBI and the FTC are also taking action on this issue. The FBI launched investigations into three children’s hospitals over child mutilation, while the FTC held a workshop that brought together experts, detransitioners, and whistleblowers to discuss the untold dangers of these operations. Even Leftmedia rags like The Atlantic are admitting that these surgeries do not lead to positive outcomes. Perhaps this horrific and tragic chapter of American history can finally be brought to a close.

  • Illegal alien “Maryland Man” belonged to Biden-backed anti-ICE group: Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the suspected MS-13 gang member and wife beater whom the Trump administration is currently trying on human trafficking charges, also happened to be a member of a radical leftist anti-ICE group that received funding from the Biden administration. The group, known as CASA, called for the abolishing of ICE and campaigned to prevent local law enforcement from working with federal immigration enforcement. The Biden administration awarded CASA over $5 million in taxpayer funding going back to 2022 through a DHS program to fund “innovations in citizenship preparation.” It is unclear what Abrego Garcia’s membership in CASA entailed or what service he may have received from the group.
