Left-Wing Radicalism: What’s Wrong With the Education System

The Oxford Union president-elect who debated Charlie Kirk and celebrated his attack was voted out, while two school teachers mocked Kirk’s death at “No Kings” protests.

We knew that the radicals on the Left hated those who disagreed with them, but it was exemplified in a major way after the assassination of Charlie Kirk. One of the most shocking examples of someone celebrating his murder was George Abaraonye, the president-elect of the Oxford Union, a prestigious debating society for students at Oxford University in the UK.

Abaraonye had the opportunity to debate Kirk at the Oxford Union this past year. He knew Charlie, and Charlie knew him. Abaraonye did not win that debate. Apparently, he took it very badly because when news of the assassination traveled across the pond, Abaraonye responded in celebration. On WhatsApp, he wrote, “CHARLIE KIRK GOT SHOT LET’S F***ING GO,” “CHARLIE KIRK GOT SHOT LOOOL,” and, “SCOREBOARD FN.” That last comment was meant to imply that his side had a point because our side lost a hero.

Abaraonye later deleted the posts, stating that he “reacted rashly” and that “those words did not reflect [his] values.” Humph. What sort of person reacts to the announcement of someone being shot with celebration as their first impulse? Someone who believes that conservatives are his literal enemy, as opposed to humans whose ideas differ from his own.

Ever since these sentiments were made public, there have been calls by current and former Oxford Union members for his resignation. They penned an open letter, stating:

The Oxford Union is bigger than any one individual. It was founded to provide students with a free and productive space in which to discuss the pressing ideas of the day. Free speech is the Oxford Union’s foundational principle. For 200 years, the Union has resisted pressure — from the University, the Church, numerous governments, and its own members — to restrict discourse and debate. It stood the test of time through war, social upheaval, and generational change. In this tradition, we do not question your right to speak your mind about Charlie Kirk’s murder; in this tradition, we do not join the calls that have been made for the university and your college to discipline you for your comments. However, your public reaction to a fatal shooting displayed a callousness inconsistent with the Union President’s duty to safeguard free and open debate, rendering it untenable for you to accede to the Office of President.

When speakers and potential debaters began cancelling engagements at the Oxford Union because they believed that if the society’s president held pro-assassination views, it was no longer a haven of free speech and free discourse. Abaraonye has refused to back down, forcing the Oxford Union Society’s hand.

This past weekend, the Oxford Union held a vote of no confidence in Abaraonye. He lost by a significant margin. On Tuesday, the ballot results were posted: 1,228 in favor and 501 against. Two-thirds of the votes were needed to confirm the vote of no confidence, and they achieved it, ousting Abaraonye. This is some rare positive news from the UK, to say the least.

However, Abaraonye has contested these results, saying there may have been tampering with the votes.

This was not the only example of horrific behavior by members of the educational establishment. In Chicago, a public school teacher waving a Mexican flag at a “No Kings” rally mimed getting shot in the neck as a truck drove by with a Charlie Kirk flag. She was mocking and antagonistic.

Another middle school teacher in California decided it would be appropriate at her “No Kings” protest to mock children who were counterprotesting and saying the name of their hero. They were chanting “Charlie Kirk,” and after each mention of his name, she’d shout, “He’s dead.”

These aren’t teachers. They’re political activists in sheep’s clothing. Their demented filth is what has been allowed to shape this generation, both here and abroad. It’s so prevalent that the first impulse of a young man from across the world upon hearing that someone he debated with had been killed was glee.
