Billie Eilish’s ‘Stolen Land’ Hypocrisy

The singer-songwriter’s mindless, politically emotive speech at the Grammys may have gotten her more than she bargained for.

The Grammy Awards took place this past Sunday, and like most other star-studded award shows, viewership has been on the decline. This year was no different.

According to The New York Times, “The Grammy Awards drew 14.4 million viewers on Sunday night, about a million fewer viewers than last year, Nielsen reported on Tuesday.” The Times added, “That drop, about 6 percent, marks the second consecutive year that the Grammys have attracted fewer viewers.”

Sunday’s Grammys, which the Times also noted, had more political speeches than any acceptance show in years, which is saying something.

The most infamous “political speech” came from singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, who won Song of the Year for her tune “Wildflower.” For context, this song is told from the perspective of a girl who feels guilt over dating a guy who used to date her friend. It’s derivative, and the lyrics leave much to be desired.

Her victory over what everyone assumed would be the song of the year, “Golden” from the musical “KPop Demon Hunters” — covered by our Pop Culture Contrarian podcast team — surprised everyone, including Eilish herself.

Eilish’s emotional acceptance speech, however, is what has everyone talking. “No one is illegal on stolen land,” she told the clapping seals in the audience, adding, “F*** ICE.”

It should surprise no one that a popular musician would express the views of a woke leftist. The most entertaining part, however, was the response.

People were quick to point out the fallacy of claiming no one is illegal on stolen land. If the land is stolen, who does it belong to? Wouldn’t that make all of us illegal? Or legal? Who knows.

As political pundit Matt Walsh put it, “Land cannot be stolen if no one is illegal.”

Others pointed out that the pop star who owns a beautiful palatial estate in Malibu is a hypocrite with no room to talk. Eilish, with her millions of dollars and hyper-vigilant security (she has a stalker problem), isn’t inviting illegals into her home and isn’t giving them her money or food. The fact that she has armed security protecting the borders of her home is proof of that.

Billie Eilish believes in the sovereignty of her own borders. Why deny that same peace of mind to the rest of us, whose armed security is ICE and Border Patrol?

The funniest response to her now-infamous speech came from the Native American Tongva tribe, which claimed that Eilish’s home is on their “ancestral land.” While they didn’t demand her house, they did ask that the celebrity consult with them to bring proper awareness by naming them and acknowledging their claim to the Los Angeles Basin. A law firm, though, has offered to act as a middleman to return her property to the Tongva tribe pro bono and evict Eilish.

Our Samantha Koch observed that if Eilish believes the person she bought her house from owned the land, then she doesn’t genuinely believe the land was stolen. If she did, why pay millions for it?

Billie Eilish, of course, is simply regurgitating leftist talking points and is feeling very emotional because of the ugly scenes from Minneapolis.
