He Feared a ‘Fascist Takeover’
Donald Trump’s OMB director, Russell Vought, narrowly avoided being gunned down at his suburban DC home by a Trump-deranged leftist.
In case you missed it, Russell Vought narrowly missed being assassinated last August 10 by a Maryland man who showed up at his Northern Virginia home wearing a mask and toting a firearm without a permit.
But don’t sweat it: The Associated Press and The New York Times missed it, too.
Vought, of course, is Donald Trump’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, long a relatively low-profile role within a presidential administration. But the bespectacled Vought has become something of a lightning rod for the Left due to his co-authorship — he was one of 34 contributors — of The Heritage Foundation’s dreaded Project 2025, an anodyne 920-page conservative governing document that the Democrats disingenuously demagogued throughout the 2024 presidential campaign.
Specifically, Vought wrote the chapter dealing with the president’s Article II powers under the Constitution, including those that would allow a chief executive to trim the fat from a bloated and left-leaning bureaucracy. And he didn’t mince words. The president’s enormous power “is not vested in departments or agencies, in staff or administrative bodies, in nongovernmental organizations or other equities and interests close to the government,” he wrote. “Sadly, however, a President today assumes office to find a sprawling federal bureaucracy that all too often is carrying out its own policy plans and preferences — or, worse yet, the policy plans and preferences of a radical, supposedly ‘woke’ faction of the country.”
So Vought was intent on beating back Big Government. No wonder the Democrats hate him.
As for the would-be alleged assassin, he is 26-year-old Colin Demarco, and he appears to be yet another Trump-deranged loon. He’s apparently a fan of Luigi Mangione, the cowardly assassin of UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson, and he admitted to law enforcement that the 2024 presidential election had been “the lowest point in his life.” Why might that have been? Because Demarco feared that Trump’s election would usher in a “fascist takeover” of the country.
Hmm … where on earth might an unsettled guy get that kind of twisted idea?
How serious was Demarco? This serious: When agents searched his iCloud account, they found notes about his weaponry as well as a “Body Disposal Guide.” Demarco also expressed an interest in — shocker! — killing Trump. As he wrote on the social media platform Discord: “The more Trump does s**t like this, the more I wanna grab a gun and try to shoot him. … I am at my wits’ end and this might be the final straw. I want to get a gun, head to DC and kill him.”
As NBC News reports, “A witness told police that they saw a male standing on Vought’s porch wearing a surgical mask and rubber gloves, carrying a backpack and appearing to conceal a firearm under his shirt.” A Ring doorbell camera captured this footage as well. Demarco also specifically asked about Vought.
But again, this happened back on August 10. And Demarco wasn’t arrested by Arlington County police until January 22. That seems like an awfully long time to have cracked this case, no? Especially given Demarco’s unbalanced state. As NBC News adds, “Arlington County police accessed digital evidence that Demarco had obtained directions to Vought’s residence, that he had information detailing locations of firearms possessed by a relative and that he had a guide detailing tips to prevent criminal detection. Police also found that Demarco had posted online about Vought and engaged in online discussions appearing to solicit others to murder him.” And he posted this stuff online within days of showing up on Vought’s doorstep. Where’s the sense of urgency?
“We are grateful,” said an OMB spokesperson, “for the work of law enforcement in keeping Director Vought and his family safe.”
And his family.
Perhaps it’s hard for leftists and their media fellow-travelers to believe that anyone who’d work for loathsome Donald Trump could possibly have a wife and children, a mom and a dad, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, but there it is. Conservatives are humans, too.
And political violence, as we know, continues to come almost exclusively from the Left.
