Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) was once the premier hospital in The Lone Star State at which to perform bodily mutilation surgeries on gender-confused kids. Not anymore.

The state of Texas banned gender mutilation surgeries for minors in 2023, and TCH had pledged that it would stop cutting up kids in the name of faulty science. However, it is now hotly debated whether TCH did, in fact, stop.

Dr. Ethan Haim, who worked at TCH during the beginning of the state ban, blew the whistle on the hospital, providing evidence that it was undermining the law and distributing transgender drugs and surgeries to children.

In a lawsuit filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, TCH was accused of not only failing to stop performing bodily mutilation surgeries on minors but also billing Texas Medicaid for those surgeries. Dr. Haim revealed that TCH was hiding the Medicaid charges by coding them as something other than what they were.

Instead of battling these allegations in the court of law, though, TCH has just agreed to settle. In a statement, the hospital disingenuously stated:

Today, we made the difficult decision to settle with the Texas Attorney General and the Department of Justice, closing a chapter that has been wrought with falsehoods and distractions. To be clear — we are settling to protect our resources from endless and costly litigation. This settlement will allow us to redirect those precious resources to focus on the life-saving care and groundbreaking discoveries of our exceptional clinicians and scientists.

And yet, this wasn’t just a monetary settlement. It was a complete 180. Not only is TCH going to pay $10 million in compensation to repay Texas Medicaid, but it is also going to completely stop its transgender services for minors. Additionally, TCH agreed to a) fire the five doctors performing these illegal procedures on minors and b) open the first-of-its-kind detransitioner clinic.

This new clinic will provide services to children who were manipulated and groomed into the gender cult but who later discovered they made a mistake. For the first five years of its operation, the clinic will provide detransitioning services free of charge to the families harmed by gender ideology in an effort to mitigate the extreme complications and side effects of drugs and surgeries.

As The Washington Stand’s Joshua Arnold put it:

The ramifications of this settlement are massive. While $10 million is a relatively small financial penalty for a hospital giant, it is more significant that the hospital agreed to fire staff, change bylaws, and fully fund a clinic to do the opposite of the procedures it recently profited from. Clearly, the hospital realized federal and state prosecutors had it over a barrel. So, like any self-interested business, it finally decided to cut its losses and reach the best deal that it could.

Activists on the Left are inevitably decrying this settlement as a betrayal. Texas State Rep. Jessica González called it “the furthering of an agenda to eradicate transgender people from the eyes of society,” and Equality Texas CEO Brad Pritchett pulled out the old canard that there is a negligible number of detransitioners, ergo the new clinic is a waste of time and money.

These are common lies that are spread by gender ideologists. Why? Because if there exist individuals who regret their choice to “transition,” that undermines the Left’s entire ideological underpinning, which is that gender identity is not a choice but rather a lived reality, an outward expression of a person’s inward truth.

Detransitioners are, in fact, an ever-growing group. As the social contagion or indoctrination gradually subsides, what oftentimes remains is regret. Hopefully, these deceived children in Texas will have the willingness to even go back to the hospital that wrongfully ravaged their bodies with cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and surgeries.

This settlement is a huge turnaround in the fight against radical gender ideology. As AG Paxton declared, “Today is a monumental day in the fight to stop the radical transgender movement. This historic settlement reflects an institutional and fundamental cultural shift away from radical ‘gender’ ideology.”

Texas Children’s Hospital is seeing the writing on the wall. With detransitioners beginning to win malpractice lawsuits and states increasingly cracking down on “gender affirmation” care for minors, the tide has truly begun to shift.
