DNC Autopsy: ‘It’s Someone Else’s Fault’
Admit nothing, deny everything, and make counter allegations. That’s effectively the strategy for the document known as the “autopsy” of the Dems’ 2024 defeat.
Well, it’s Kamala Friday. For the last three Fridays in a row, I’ve had the pleasure of writing about Kamala Harris. At least that’s my takeaway from “the great significance to the passage of time” since then.
The first story I wrote is the most relevant: Harris’s push to exhume the Democratic National Committee’s buried autopsy of the 2024 election. She succeeded, and the DNC released a 192-page draft report yesterday. Here it is at the DNC’s unofficial website, The New York Times.
The big picture is the same as the Democrats’ overall message: Everything is totally someone else’s fault.
In fact, it almost literally says that at the top. “Disclaimer: This document reflects the views of the author, not the DNC. The DNC was not provided with the underlying sourcing, interviews, or supporting data for many of the assertions contained herein and therefore cannot independently verify the claims presented.” Every page begins with that same scapegoat absolution.
It’s okay to pause here and laugh.
It ends with another howler: “While we extensively fact-check DNC After Action Report [sic] in order to ensure accuracy, it is always possible that mistakes remain. We encourage any readers who notice factual errors to reach out to use [sic] at [email protected].”
Yes, there are multiple mistakes in those two sentences, and that typifies the report.
DNC Chair Ken Martin threw his contractor, Democrat strategist Paul Rivera, under the bus:
When I commissioned a comprehensive review of the 2024 election, I started a process to answer those questions while interrogating where our party has systemically and historically fallen short. I didn’t want that process led by anybody directly tied to the 2024 cycle — either the campaign or the consultants involved — and I did not want to put my own thumb on the scale for what might be produced. What I did ask for were actionable takeaways for the future. I wanted real, in-depth, specific recommendations to improve our allocation of resources, tech, data, organizing, media strategy, and more. I chose someone who I thought could produce this type of report.
When I received the report late last year, it wasn’t ready for primetime. Not even close. And because no source material was provided, fixing it would have meant starting over, from the beginning — every conversation, every interview, every data set. …
I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards. I don’t endorse what’s in this report, or what’s left out of it. I could not in good faith put the DNC’s stamp of approval on it. But transparency is paramount. So, today I am releasing the report as I received it — in its entirety, unedited and unabridged — with annotations for claims that couldn’t be verified.
The shorter version: Martin assigned homework, and when the student turned in a steaming pile, he shrugged and buried it in the backyard. Months later, only under immense pressure from Harris, who wanted to make clear that her loss was not her fault, he released a report … that isn’t his fault either.
Unreal.
No wonder there are calls for Martin’s resignation.
Anyway, on to the rancid meat of the report, such as it is. The autopsy concluded that Harris and Tim Walz didn’t attack Donald Trump hard enough, which suggests the report’s author never looked at the news. “The national campaign did not effectively drive Trump’s negatives,” it says. Repeatedly calling him a fascist wasn’t enough? Harris’s entire campaign was essentially Orange Man bad, abortion good, maniacal cackle.
The report included this phenomenal piece of gaslighting: “Democrats operate in an ecosystem defined by reason even in cycles when the electorate is defined by rage.”
I suppose you could argue they operate in that ecosystem if it counts for their opponents to use reason. And they are the ones generating almost all of the rage — see, for example, the myriad assassination attempts, one of which was successful.
As for blame, “The White House did not effectively support Vice President Harris over three and half [sic] years to improve her standing before the candidate switch.” In other words, it wasn’t that Harris is an incompetent dunce who was only vice president because Joe Biden painted himself into a DEI corner by promising to pick a “woman of color.” It’s that “the White House” failed her.
That might be code for Joe Biden, of course, but the report barely brings up the disastrous debate that did in Old Joe. It doesn’t bother mentioning — at all — his glaringly obvious cognitive decline or his entire party’s efforts to cover it up. You know, the cognitive decline that the Party’s Leftmedia propagandists were utterly shocked to learn about after the election.
Inexplicably, another thing the report doesn’t really get into is the candidate swap from Biden to Harris without any process whatsoever. #Democracy.
It doesn’t note that voters don’t much care for socialism, which is increasingly the overt platform of the Democrat Party. Dems are evidently too busy fighting “fascism” to realize that fascism and socialism are mostly the same ideology.
That doesn’t mean there aren’t nods to real admissions, like Democrats’ “persistent inability or unwillingness to listen to all voters,” or that millions of Americans “do not see themselves reflected in the America of the Democratic Party.”
Still, the bottom line is that Democrats didn’t learn much from their 2024 defeat to a Convicted Felon™.
I’ll leave the conclusion to Democrat Florida Representative Jared Moskowitz, who said, “An autopsy is a medical procedure you do over a corpse, and now it sounds like we need a malpractice attorney because we couldn’t even do the autopsy correctly.”
