It does happen, especially closer to Black Friday. You see the advertisement for the one toy or the one electronic device everyone wants. And the price is unbelievable! You rush into the store minutes after opening and an employee says, “Oh, sorry, we’re all sold out. But we have them online at this price.” Funny how that works.

It’s becoming popular in politics now too, especially with Democrats. It reminds me of a quote by a famous person: “Those are my principles, and if you don’t like them … well, I have others” (Groucho Marx).

We laugh at that, but more and more we’re seeing it in the political arena, especially during the campaign season. The examples are far too many to fit into a short post, but let’s take just three and examine them.

I begin with newly elected Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger. Virginia had a pretty good run under Governor Glenn Youngkin. His lieutenant governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, ran against Spanberger, who campaigned as a moderate. The Republicans didn’t run a strong campaign, so voters chose the next shiny thing, and Spanberger was elected.

And boy did she flip faster than a Cracker Barrel pancake, going way, way to the left. She wants to raise taxes on everything — and I mean everything! She also flipped on redistricting, wants to ban guns, wants to stop ICE from deporting illegal alien criminals, and has many other far-left agenda items. The buyer’s remorse was immediate!

Next on the list is Graham Platner, the Senate candidate for Maine. This guy doesn’t seem to have principles, and it hurts to even mention that he was a Marine. The deeper you look, the more disgusting he becomes. He had a Nazi tattoo, seems to be a sexual pervert, is abusive to women, and cheated on his wife by sexting women shortly after getting married. He has also said that women who get raped after drinking either deserved it or are to blame and that he’s a communist!

This guy is despicable, yet the Democrats are circling the wagons for him because they endeavor to beat longtime milquetoast Republican Senator Susan Collins. She’s about as MAGA as Hillary Clinton. Platner recently met with Democrat leaders in Washington, DC, telling them there’s nothing worse coming. That’s a pretty low bar, if you ask me. Just a few years ago, he would never have made it onto a ballot, let alone overwhelmingly win a primary.

My favorite is Texas Senate candidate and “minister” James Talarico. This guy is something else. Democrats should know that the things they say on camera or post on social media are out there forever. There are plenty of videos of Talarico saying extreme things during his time in politics, but now he’s trying to walk them back. He denies saying some things, parses his words on other things, and hopes we will forget the rest.

What does that tell you about a politician who claims to stand for “principles” and then, when it’s inconvenient or damaging to the narrative, he just throws them out? Talarico was a dyed-in-the-wool vegan. Now he loves Texas BBQ! What a hypocrite. But that’s not the real problem. It’s what Democrats will stoop to for power.

We didn’t get here overnight. We have educated several generations to believe that America is evil and that socialism/Marxism will fix everything. If Americans had been taught the real results of communism — tens of millions of people murdered — we wouldn’t be where we are today.

So, where do we go now?

America was founded on biblical principles. Faithful men came up with a document unlike any other: the Constitution. If we return to these values, these guiding principles, and add continued prayer, America can continue to be great. Having served, bled for, and defended this nation, I believe it has always been great!
