Democrats Bored by Angel Families
At a congressional hearing earlier this week, Seattle Democrat Pramila Jayapal couldn’t hide her callousness toward the families of those who’ve been murdered by illegal immigrants.
Here’s a question: If the Democrats so are desperate to move on from Joe Biden, then why do they keep doing things that remind us of him?
A few weeks ago, they belatedly trotted out a mealy-mouthed autopsy on the 2024 election and rehashed their decrepit former standard-bearer’s disastrous decision to run again. More recently, some of them began to distance themselves from the overeducated and underemployed socialists in their midst, just like they did when the party shivved Bernie Sanders and all but dragged Biden’s corpse across the finish line in 2020.
And on Tuesday, hard-leftist Pramila Jayapal, the Seattle-based congresswoman, did her best to remind us of the time Joe Biden stood there on the tarmac at Dover Air Force Base to receive 13 of our fallen servicemembers … and kept looking at his damned watch.
The difference, though, was that while Biden displayed his boredom toward the families of the American warriors whose deaths were enabled by his retreat and surrender in Afghanistan, Jayapal displayed her boredom toward the families of the young Americans whose murders by illegal aliens were enabled by her party’s open-borders policies.
“Unfortunately,” said Jayapal during a hearing of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity and Security, “this hearing is the fourth time in this committee that we’ve had a hearing on sanctuary cities. The fourth time. … There’s many other things that we could be doing other than this.”
Oh, is that right? Such as?
“I would have loved,” Jayapal added, “to have had some hearings on the unconstitutionality of the president’s executive order on eliminating birthright citizenship.”
Rep. Pramila Jayapal tells the parents of those murdered by illegal aliens that she has better things to do:

Let that settle in. Jayapal said — in front of the Angel parents who were there to testify on behalf of their fallen children — that she and her Democrat colleagues have better things to do.
Words fail, utterly, to describe the callousness and tone-deafness of Jayapal’s comments. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine how a normally functioning human brain could transmit such a vile sentiment to one’s vocal cords. But there you have it.
One Angel mom, though, wasn’t about to let Jayapal’s words enter the congressional record unchallenged. Jessica Gorman, whose daughter Sheridan, an 18-year-old Loyola University student, was gunned down by an illegal immigrant named Jose Medina on a pier in Chicago, took Jayapal to task.
Stop everything you’re doing and listen to Angel Mom Jessica Gorman, mother of Sheridan Gorman, who was murdered by a 25-year-old Venezuelan illegal.

“Why are illegal immigrants more important than my daughter?” pic.twitter.com/0NOXxUj62s
“When,” she tearfully asked, “did protecting our American citizens stop being your first priority? And even more important: Why?”
Gorman continued: “I challenge you all to sit down with me. Take my hand, look me in the eye, and then explain to me, because I just don’t understand. Explain why people here illegally matter more than your American citizens. Explain why sanctuary policies matter more than my Sheridan’s life. Explain why cooperation with ICE was too much to ask for, but asking our American parents to bury our children is somehow acceptable. Ask me — I need you to tell me.”
And then this: “This cannot be explained away, and it cannot be buried beneath a list of unrelated issues that you all paraded before us. Thanks for telling me without telling me that, you know, you’re here but you don’t want to be. This is the fourth … time you had Angel Families. Thanks for telling me you don’t care.”
Gorman’s wrenching remarks clearly hit home with New York Republican Mike Lawler. “You may not want to hear the details,” he said. “It may be an inconvenience to you, but the details matter.”
Lawler continued: “When you send your kid to college, you should be worried about making sure they go to class or hopefully that they have a nice roommate or how to help them get a summer internship. Not worried that illegal immigrants are shooting them while they’re out with their friends looking at the northern lights.”
After being interrupted repeatedly by ranking Democrat Jamie Raskin and others, Lawler turned on them: “The same outrage you feel about Renée Good and Alex Pretti you should feel about Sheridan Gorman and Laken Riley. … You’re an absolute disgrace for supporting sanctuary policies. … You should be ashamed.”
The Democrats, from Pramila Jayapal through Jamie Raskin, and all of them in between, should be ashamed for the death and familial destruction that their sanctuary policies have caused. And good on Mike Lawler for saying so.
