It’s Fringe vs. Cringe in MI Dem Senate Primary

In what might be the GOP’s best shot at picking up a Senate seat, Michigan Dems have a choice between a dimwitted establishment hack and a radical socialist Muslim.

On Tuesday, August 4, Democrat voters in Michigan will face a choice with far-reaching ramifications for American governance: Do we go for the moron or the Muslim?

The moron is, of course, U.S. Congresswoman Haley Stevens, the establishment candidate who got her chin from Kirk Douglas, her tan from Wednesday Addams, and her stage presence from Pee Wee Herman.

And the Muslim is Abdul El-Sayed, a Dearborn-based Jew-hating leftist who aims to determine whether Democrats in any state within our nominally Christian nation are dumb enough to elect an adherent to the anti-Western religion of a child-raping warlord.

If Democrats elect the former, then it’s game-on to see whether Stevens, the white female establishment Democrat with the normal-sounding name, or Mike Rogers, the white male establishment Republican with the even-more-normal-sounding name, will replace retiring Democrat Senator Gary Peters on November 3.

And if the former, then control of the Senate is still in play. Otherwise, it’s good night, sweet prince for the Democrats. Because I don’t think there’s any way that a bluish-purplish state like Michigan will elect such a radical candidate as El-Sayed. Rogers will clobber him, and this would then be a Republican pick-up, eliminating any plausible path for the Democrats to offset a 54-46 deficit in the upper chamber — especially given that they would need to flip five other seats, since JD Vance is the 50-50 tiebreaker.

Thus, the Democrat Party apparatus is sweating. And they’re praying — inasmuch as Democrats still pray — that the dimwitted Stevens can hold off the Democratic Socialist who doesn’t want to be called a Democratic Socialist, even as Democratic Socialists all across the country are rooting for him like Big Pharma roots for pandemics.

To describe El Sayed as fringy for a statewide candidate is to describe water as wet or fire as hot or Gavin Newsom as slippery or James Talerico as gay or Tim Walz as retarded.

As for his Jew hatred — as evidenced by his defense of the Muslim terrorist who rammed his car into a synagogue in metro Detroit and tried to massacre as many Jews as possible — I can certainly understand why El-Sayed has expressed such bitterness toward Israel. I mean, I’d probably be kind of bitter, too, if my once-proud but now retrograde civilization kept getting its butt kicked by a plucky little country that you can drive across in about 20 minutes. (Here, I should clarify that by “once-proud,” I mean around 1,200 years ago, when Islam gave us algebra and the algorithm. Since then, though, it’s been pretty much bupkis but for rape and pillage.)

All that’s missing here is a swipe at the Great Satan. But in fairness to El-Sayed, I’m sure that he, like Ilhan Omar, genuinely believes that “some people did something” on 9/11. Incidentally, we’re coming up on 25 years since that Muslim mass murder of Americans. And while folks always used to say “Never Forget,” it seems that around half of Democrats have since forgotten.

Indeed, El-Sayed recently defended the vile Hassan Piker as having been misquoted when he said America deserved 9/11 — which is almost as rich as former footballer Keyshawn Johnson being asked about an inconvenient passage in his autobiography and claiming he was misquoted.

El-Sayed may also be guilty of some grade inflation, as there are questions about just what kind of “doctor” credentials he has. Did “Doctor” El-Sayed actually earn that honorific? Where the heck is the mainstream media, and why aren’t they interested in getting to the bottom of this guy’s stolen medical valor? Or perhaps he’s a doctor in the same way that Jill Biden is, or the same way that Julius Erving is. Or, as National Review’s Jim Geraghty put it, “It turns out that El-Sayed is a physician the way that Graham Platner was an "oyster farmer” — he’s done it a couple of times, but he doesn’t make a living at it.“

Perhaps a walk-back is in the works. Perhaps El-Sayed will have to admit that he’s not a real doctor, but he plays one on TV, er, on the campaign trail.

Alas, all this might be academic. A recent poll shows Stevens leading El-Sayed, and we’re just over two weeks from the primary vote.

Recall that a while back, when we took the temperature of the socialist moment in Democrat politics, I suggested that Michigan’s Senate race would be a great proxy for whether a socialist candidate could win a statewide Democrat contest while espousing a far-left ideology whose general-election vote ceiling is stuck in the low-40s.

Still, it’s fun to play things out — fun to assess whether Democrats have completely lost their minds.
