Blanche Rescinds the Anti-Weaponization Fund

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is working out a deal with Republican senators to win a confirmation vote scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The Leftmedia is trumpeting stories about Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche finally succumbing to pressure from two Republican senators to formally end President Donald Trump’s anti-weaponization fund. Yet it’s worth remembering why such a thing was even proposed: because Trump and his allies were the victims of the weaponization of government by the last two Democrat administrations.

To hear the mainstream media parrot Democrat Elizabeth Warren, Trump wanted “a giant slush fund of taxpayer dollars for his MAGA buddies,” including his sons. Democrats and their Leftmedia propagandists claim Trump and his supporters were merely annoyed by legal issues they brought on themselves. The truth is that Joe Biden and Barack Obama weaponized the Justice Department, the IRS, and other government agencies to target Donald Trump, his family, and many of his supporters. That included practically every person who was at the Capitol on January 6, from the violent rioters (who never should have been pardoned) to the innocent grandparents who peacefully toured the Rotunda.

Trump wanted compensation for the victims of such heavy-handed and thoroughly politicized government schemes, so, in May, he and his team announced a $1.776 billion fund to do just that. The dollar amount was admittedly a too-cute-by-half nod to America’s 250th birthday, but the idea didn’t just come out of the blue.

Yet even many Republicans quickly soured on the fund, and within a couple of weeks, Team Trump backpedaled, putting the kibosh on the fund. Blanche promised at his confirmation hearing not to move forward with it.

It certainly seemed untoward that the president and his family could benefit from a fund overseen by his own administration. Even a whiff of behaving like the Biden Crime Family — which made a tiny fraction of $1.776 billion in influence peddling — didn’t go over well with other Republicans and conservatives. Former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy is a particularly harsh critic, calling it a “tawdry” “scheme” that is merely “camouflaged as a legal settlement of a lawsuit Trump brought against his own administration, for wrongdoing that occurred during his last administration.”

Senators Thom Tillis and John Cornyn decided it was worth fighting. Tillis is retiring, and Cornyn was defeated in his primary, so neither one cares any longer about the RINO label. The pair declared their opposition to Blanche’s nomination as attorney general until Trump formally ditched the fund.

Blanche did that yesterday, issuing a written order to formally rescind it, though it bears only his signature.

“Although the Acting Attorney General has repeatedly advised Congress through testimony, including under oath, as well as in written responses, that the Fund is not moving forward, and the Department has repeatedly represented to district courts that the Fund is not moving forward, today’s Order officially rescinds the May 18, 2026 Order,” the Justice Department said in a statement accompanying the order.

Furthermore, “No Members were appointed; no funds were transferred; no process for receiving claims was established; no claims were paid,” the order says. “This order establishes, beyond any doubt, that there is no Fund.”

President Trump didn’t want to look like a loser, so he issued an ultimatum of his own via Truth Social:

If Senators Cornyn and Tillis, both upset because I wouldn’t Endorse them (they lost, and quit, respectively!), aren’t going to approve Todd Blanche, one of the most respected professionals, according to everybody, in the Country, to be the United States Attorney General, then I will keep Todd as Acting A.G., and push hard to get the Anti-Weaponization Bill, which takes care of those who have been so badly treated by the Crooked Joe Biden (and Obuma!) Administration (I get nothing, although I was treated horribly!), PASSED. Todd Blanche was a voice of reason! It will immediately be back on the table, and I will get it done. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT

Tillis responded, “It’s unfortunate that Todd Blanche, who I consider qualified for the job, will not be confirmed because of this reversal. Hopefully, we can resolve this by Tuesday.” Clearly, Tillis believes Trump and Blanche will simply resurrect the fund once Blanche is confirmed. With how much Trump defends it, that’s not an unreasonable assumption.

People have had “their lives destroyed,” Trump told reporters over the weekend. “It is dead, but you know, I wish it weren’t,” he added. “To be honest with you, I think people were horribly treated, horribly abused … and I’d like to see them compensated for the pain.”

He’s got a point, though the mechanism he chose is far from ideal.

Blanche’s confirmation vote is scheduled for Tuesday morning, so we’ll see who blinks.
