Disney sues FCC over broadcasting license scrutiny
The Walt Disney Company and ABC have sued the FCC, citing the agency’s request to reapply for license renewal early. Disney claims that this move violates the First Amendment and that it was a retaliatory campaign after President Donald Trump’s verbal skirmish with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, among other things. However, the FCC is only investigating due to suspected DEI hiring practices at ABC, as well as disproportionate media time being given to Democrat candidates on its shows. This seems like a blatant attempt by the national media to protect Disney and ABC and also to antagonize the president once again. While it is obvious that the president is not a fan of ABC, that doesn’t change the fact that the FCC is acting on real grounds for license removal. If found guilty, ABC faces the prospect of being relegated to streaming-only broadcasting.

U.S., Canada in talks to prevent 50% tariff from going into effect
President Trump has paused the 50% tariff on select Canadian imports for three days in order to make an alternative deal. The tariffs were recently introduced and were supposed to take effect at midnight on Wednesday. Trump may seek to leverage the tariffs to finally open the Keystone XL pipeline, which President Joe Biden canceled at the beginning of his term. While this move would undoubtedly lower gas prices considerably, it remains to be seen whether Canada will reach any final agreement with its southern neighbor. Given Trump’s inconsistent behavior toward America’s allies, it’s hard to tell.

Minnesota’s “outstanding refugee” fraudster
In 2021, the Minnesota Department of Human Services honored Salman Ahmed Elmi with an Entrepreneurship Award and the Outstanding Refugee Award. In 2026, Elmi was charged with multiple counts of aiding and abetting by swindle and by false representation in a scheme that attempted to bilk Medicaid out of $1 million. Two members of the scheme are accused of being involved in a sex-trafficking ring involving brothels. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Minnesota’s Department of Human Services appears to be deeply involved in the massive Medicaid fraud scheme that operated in the state in recent years.

Last judicial holdout admits defeat: TPS is once again temporary
On Tuesday, Judge Brian Murphy — the last district judge attempting to protect “refugees” who had been granted Temporary Protected Status — lifted his block on the cancellation of TPS. Cases involving the termination of TPS have been challenged by leftist-appointed district judges across the country, but a 6-3 SCOTUS decision in June ruled that those judges lack jurisdiction on the issue. Nearly one million migrants who were granted TPS, mostly by the Biden administration, now face deportation if they do not leave voluntarily. The Department of Homeland Security warned those with terminated TPS to leave “NOW” but added, “It’s not too late to get a $2,600 check and a free flight home.”

Massachusetts mayor doesn’t speak English
After his arrest for fraud, Brian DePeña revealed he didn’t speak English. The mayor of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was recently arrested for misusing more than $1.5 million from a loan program created to boost struggling businesses during the pandemic. In a viral video, reporters asked DePeña to comment on the fraud accusations; his lawyer told them that the mayor didn’t speak English. Born in the Dominican Republic, DePeña came to the U.S. illegally, though he later acquired proper documentation. After serving on the city council for five years, DePeña was elected mayor of Lawrence in 2021 and won reelection in 2025.

Polling site folds, admits its results were intentionally fake
A polling firm dubbed Median Strategies recently announced it was folding and ending all operations. Intriguingly, the firm admitted that all its polling was fake and that it was part of a “social experiment.” The firm had produced polls in both the Wisconsin gubernatorial primary race and the Los Angeles mayoral race. In The Badger State, the firm was responsible for the poll that showed DSA candidate Francesca Hong with a 23-point lead over David Crowley, who ended up winning the primary. Similarly in LA, the firm fabricated polling data that gave Mayor Karen Bass a 12-point lead over radical leftist challenger Nithya Raman. “Median Strategies was created as a short-term social experiment examining how purported polling information could enter and spread through the political information ecosystem without independent verification,” the company explained. “Thank you for your understanding.”

Gen Z business startups surging thanks to AI
Generation Z is increasingly contributing to entrepreneurship. A recent Bank of America study found that Gen Z adults outpaced other generations in requesting business startup loans. With AI tools, entrepreneurs can automate routine business duties, such as bookkeeping, content creation, and administrative tasks. This creates a company essentially without employees and lowers upfront advertising and marketing costs. AI has also changed the education barrier for business startups. More entrepreneurs are bypassing college, and more college graduates than ever are pursuing entrepreneurship, which leads to steeper job competition. Recent grads feel that AI hurts their job chances. Experts disagree on the potential consequences of the AI boom.

Fauci’s adviser pleads guilty to blocking COVID origin inquiries
Dr. David Morens, former senior adviser to Anthony Fauci, pleaded guilty to hiding documents regarding the origin of COVID-19 and to attempting to resume funding for a firm that sent American money to a Chinese virus lab. Morens admitted to “concealing” and “destroying” records in order to make them inaccessible to the public under open-records laws. He also conspired with EcoHealth Alliance, the firm siphoning money to the Chinese lab, to conceal communications about restoring the funding President Trump cut off early in the pandemic. One of the researchers with EcoHealth, Peter Daszak, “gifted” to Morens in exchange for defending the firm. Morens could be sentenced to five years in jail for one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. EcoHealth no longer receives federal funding, and restrictions have been placed on foreign labs conducting risky research.

Court rules against ICE arrests at churches
The Fourth Circuit Court ruled Tuesday that the DHS policy allowing ICE access to churches to arrest illegals violated the religious rights of “migrants, churches, temples, and mosques.” The three-judge panel unanimously decided that the government trampled on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and caused a “reduction in attendance at the plaintiffs’ houses of worship.” The case was filed by Quaker organizations, the Sikh Temple of Sacramento, and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, who successfully proved their congregations had dwindled following the DHS policy change by the Trump administration. The Biden-era DHS policy required ICE headquarters approval for arrests at “sensitive locations,” and its definition of the term went beyond places of worship to include schools, bus stops, courthouses, playgrounds, and community centers. The ruling applies only to those houses of worship that filed and only to the plaintiffs in this case.

Jeffries gets social media backlash for condemning antisemitism
On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries blasted Florida GOP primary candidate Dan Bilzerian for antisemitic attacks against Congressman Randy Fine. Bilzerian has referred to Fine as a “fat Jew” and “Satanic.” Interestingly, a number of leftists took Jeffries to task for failing to call out Fine for his “Islamophobia.” Journalist Mehdi Hasan posted on X, “Bilzerian is awful and antisemitic. Do you have anything to say about the Republican Islamophobe currently sitting in that seat, Rep. Randy Fine?” Apparently, those criticizing Jeffries have short memories because he did, in fact, condemn Fine as “an Islamophobic, disgusting and unrepentant bigot” following Fine’s comment of choosing dogs over Muslims.
