Economic Confidence in DC
They’re all alone.
How out of touch are the people who live in Washington, DC? Well, according to Gallup, District residents make the only “state” where the economic outlook is positive. “Although scores on Gallup’s Economic Confidence Index improved in most U.S. states in 2013, the index remained negative in all 50,” reports Gallup. “Only the District of Columbia had a positive index.” The CBO’s report last week projects economic growth averaging in the 2% range over the next decade, which means dependence on government will remain high. And therein lies the answer to DC’s positive outlook.
