Surprise — Lerner Pleads the Fifth
Hearing reruns.
Appearing before Congress Wednesday, retired IRS official Lois Lerner once again pleaded the Fifth. When Rep. Darrell Issa demanded to know, for example, what Lerner meant when she said in one email “tea-party matter very dangerous,” she stonewalled. It was a replay of her performance in May 2013 when she pleaded the Fifth only after declaring, “I have not done anything wrong.” She arguably waived her rights by making her statement, and Issa warned Wednesday that “the committee will proceed to consider whether she should be held in contempt.” It’s certainly clear that she holds Rule of Law, the Tea Party and Issa in contempt. But then the hearing got really exciting, as Rep. Elijah Cummings angrily informed Issa that he “cannot run a committee like this” with a “one-sided investigation.” So Issa cut Cummings’ mic and ended the hearing. It was a dose of the Left’s own medicine.
