The Trouble With Capitalism
Is that it isn’t always capitalist.
American Enterprise Institute scholar Charles Murray doesn’t think much of our capitalist system. But that’s because it’s not always capitalist since too many big corporations are “in bed with the government.” He explains, “The American people look at the way that people make zillions of bucks because they can get the regulations written the way they want to, because they get the government to support their technology. They see that going on. Plus the crony capitalism.” Which, we would add, isn’t capitalism at all. Murray continued, “I am actually speaking as someone who loves competition and free enterprise. And I am saying to the people who – supposedly – are on my side, ‘you guys had better practice what you preach, because a lot of you aren’t.’” He’s certainly right that the system has been broken for some time. It’s infuriating that too many solutions mean doubling down on what’s wrong.
