Five years ago on Mar. 23, Barack Obama signed the “Affordable” Care Act into law. Now, GOP lawmakers are expecting the law to implode when the Supreme Court issues its King v. Burwell ruling later this year. And they must be ready to catch the falling pieces. In an op-ed at Fox News, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) wrote, “Over the last five years, ObamaCare has revealed the painful consequences of placing our faith in big government. Government’s ambitions may be limitless, but its abilities are not. The free market, when allowed to function as intended, has no such limitations. It has an inexhaustible ability to empower our people and meet their needs. We need leaders in Congress – and in the White House – who will recognize that fact.” His ObamaCare reform legislation, which he sketched out in his op-ed, touched on three areas Republican lawmakers must fix for health care reform: First, Republicans need to issue a tax credit for having health insurance, not an IRS fine. Second, the government should encourage innovation in the health insurance industry, not thousands of more pages of regulation. Finally, it desperately needs to reform Medicare and Medicaid.
