‘This Movement Has Moved From Tolerance to Totalitarianism’
Fox News personality and syndicated columnist John Stossel is a devout libertarian and supporter of same-sex marriage. But in remarks to colleague Bill O'Reilly concerning the fascist brouhaha over Indiana’s religious liberty law and similar legislation proposed in Arkansas, Stossel highlighted just how inane the gay “rights” movement has become. “This movement has moved from tolerance to totalitarianism. It’s the totalitarianism of the Left,” he explained, further contending, “No baker should get to stop two people from getting married to anybody they want. But they [also] shouldn’t be forced to bake the cake!” He misconstrued the crux of the issue, in our view, asserting, “It’s not about religious rights. It’s about individual freedom.” On the contrary, the first words of the Bill of Rights read, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” In other words, individual freedom and religious liberty are not mutually exclusive, which explains why the Framers were so adamant about religious protections. That aside, Stossel rightly drew comparisons to the Hobby Lobby case, opining, “Hobby Lobby has to go to the Supreme Court to not pay for what it considers murder? That’s wrong.” Indeed, progressives craftily turned what used to be universally understood social standards into ammunition, all in the name of “tolerance.” The irony is that America has never been more intolerant thanks to the power of propaganda.
